    Banbury Road

    Start date: 28 January 2019
    Approximate duration: 17 weeks

We are working to upgrade the gas network in Banbury Road, Oxford.

We are investing to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

In consultation with Oxfordshire County Council, we will start work on Monday 28 January for approximately 17 weeks.

Phase one – approximately three weeks

From Monday 28 January, we’ll be working in Banbury Road between its junctions with Upland Park Road and Apsley Road. To ensure everyone’s safety and maintain two-way traffic, we’ll need to close one lane and open the bus lane to all traffic.

Phase two – approximately fourteen weeks

From Monday 18 February we’ll be working in sections of Banbury Road between its junctions with Apsley Road to Rogers Street. To ensure everyone’s safety, we’ll need to install temporary two-way traffic lights which will move with us as we progress southwards down Banbury Road.

To keep the traffic flowing, we’ll need to temporarily close the following roads as we approach their junctions and they will not be accessible from Banbury Road:

Wentworth Road – from 18 February for approximately two weeks

Squitchey Lane – from 4 March for approximately three weeks

Hernes Crescent – from 4 March for approximately three weeks

Hernes Road – from 4 March for approximately six weeks

Summerhill Road – from 25 March for approximately five weeks

Victoria Road – from 15 April for approximately two weeks

Hobson Road – from 15 April for approximately four weeks

Hamilton Road – from 29 April for approximately two weeks

Grove Street – from 29 April for approximately two weeks

Portland Road – from 13 May for approximately two weeks

Rogers Street – from 13 May for approximately two weeks

Access will be maintained for Banbury Road residents living within our sections of work and we’ll give advance notice if we need to block your driveway. Throughout this phase, we’ll need to suspend bus stops as we progress down Banbury Road.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, people will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
