We will shortly be starting a project to upgrade the gas network in Bothwell Road, Hamilton.
We are investing £367,000 to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
Following discussions with South Lanarkshire Council, our project will start on Monday 15 October 2018 and will last for approximately 19 weeks.
We've split the project into nine phases to minimise disruption as much as possible. You can find more details about all nine phases below.
The majority of our work will be in Bothwell Road. To ensure everyone’s safety, we will need to close the nearside lane in Bothwell Road’s northbound carriageway. The lane will only be closed in the section we’re working in at any one time. The only exception is in phase seven for which you can see details of our traffic management below.
Phase 1: approximately two weeksOn Monday 15 October, we’ll start working in Bothwell Road at its junction with Arthur Street progressing towards the Bay Horse Pub.
Phase 2: approximately two weeksOn Monday 29 October, we’ll be working from outside the Bay Horse Pub to just beyond the junction of Caird Street.
Phase 3: approximately one weekFrom Monday 12 November, we will progress along Bothwell Road from beyond the junction of Caird Street to its junction with May Street.
Phase 4: approximately two weeksFrom Monday 19 November we will be working on a section of May Street. No traffic management is required for this phase.
Phase 5: approximately one week and four daysFrom Monday 7 January 2019, we’ll return after a break during Christmas and New Year. We’ll be working on a section of Bothwell Road at the entrance to the industrial estate opposite Hamilton Race Course until Thursday 10 January. For the remainder of this phase, our work will move south, just outside 67 Bothwell Road.
Phase 6: approximately two weeks and three days From Monday 14 January, we’ll be working outside 57 Bothwell Road.
Phase 7: approximately four daysFrom Friday 1 February 2019, we’ll be working outside 77 Bothwell Road (near the industrial estate). At the beginning of this phase the nearside lanes will be closed in both carriageways. We’ll then re-open the nearside lanes and close the offside lanes in both carriageways towards the end of this phase.
Phase 8: approximately one week From Monday 4 February, we’ll be working in Bothwell Road between 91 Bothwell Road and the fire station. Access to the industrial estate will be maintained at all times.
Phase 9: approximately two weeks Our final phase will begin on Monday 11 February. We’ll be working in Bothwell Road at its junction with Candymill Lane.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Hamilton residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come. We always aim to minimise disruption and we will make every effort to ensure our works are completed as soon as possible.
