Belmont Area, Ayr

We’re carrying out safety-critical work to upgrade our gas network in the Belmont area of Ayr.

In agreement with South Ayrshire Council our project will start on Monday 14 June 2021 and last approximately 46 weeks.

By upgrading our gas network in the Belmont area, we’ll continue to keep Ayr homes and businesses safe and warm long into the future.

Update 23 December 2021

We’ve almost completed stage four of our project, and are ready to start stage five in the new year.

Whilst most of our work will be carried out on the carriageway and footpaths with give and take traffic management in place, there will be times where more extensive traffic management measures will be required as set out below.

Update 18 August

Phase two – approx. six weeks

The second phase of this project started on 16 August 2021.

The temporary traffic lights at the roundabout on Dalmellington Road have now been removed and access to Belmont Road is now available from Dalmellington Road is and Maybole Road/St Leonards.

During this next stage, we’ll be working in the following areas:

  • Maybole Road, between numbers 1 and 23. Whilst we carry out our work in Maybole Road, it may be necessary to install temporary two and three-way traffic lights.
  • Nursery Road
  • Fenwickland Avenue, from Belmont Road to Peggieshill Road (behind school)
  • Belmont Avenue, from Belmont Road to opposite No 59/61
  • Longbank Road
  • Longbank Drive
  • Shawfield Avenue

Unless otherwise stated, all of our work in phase two will be carried out in the carriageway and in footpaths with minimal disruption.

Phase one – approx. 10 weeks

The first phase of this project will begin on Monday 14 June; we’ll install temporary two-way traffic lights on Dalmellington Road, between Forest Way and Belmont Road, for around two weeks. We’ll also be working in Ewenfield Road, Ewenfield Park and Ewenfield Place.

From Saturday 26 June, we’ll begin working in Belmont Road. To ensure everyone’s safety, we’ll be closing Belmont Road at both ends (at its junctions with Maybole Road and Dalmellington Road). We’ll also need to install temporary three-way traffic lights at these junctions.

While Belmont Road is closed, our teams will progress along it and then into Nursery Road and Peggieshill Road. They will also be working in Maybole Road, between its junction with Belmont Road and the Kwik Fit garage, and in Fenwickland Drive between Belmont Road and Peggieshill Road.

On Saturday 10 July, we’ll reopen Belmont Road at the Dalmellington Road end for local access. We’ll also remove the temporary three-way traffic lights at this end. However, the road closure and temporary lights at Belmont Road’s junction with Maybole Road, will remain in place until around Saturday 21 August.

You can see this first phase highlighted in yellow on the map below. Details for work in the streets highlighted in blue are yet to be finalised.

All phases and durations may be subject to change as the project develops, but we’ll keep you updated with our progress right here.
