We look after more than 74,000 kilometres of pipes across our network. Making sure these pipes deliver your gas safely and reliably means that we need to upgrade or repair them at times. We know that roadworks can be frustrating, but our essential work keeps you, your family and local community safe.

Planned work
Wednesday 9 April - Western Road, Auchterarder
From Monday 12 May, our engineers will be working in Western Road Auchterarder, to carry out upgrade work to our gas network.
Three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of our work, which is expected to take five weeks to complete.
We know this is a bust route and will be working as quickly as possible.
Emergency gas pipe repairs
When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance. But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night. Sometimes we have to start work before the information filters through to our map. When that happens, we’ll add that information here.
Friday 9 May – Weymouth Way, Weymouth
We’re continuing emergency repairs on our gas main within the nature reserve next to Weymouth Way.
Temporary two-way traffic lights remain in place on Weymouth Way between Manor Roundabout and Chafeys Roundabout for everyone’s safety. The lights are being manned from 7am to 7pm to help minimise the impact on traffic.
We've been working on repairs in challenging ground conditions in close consultation with Radipole Lake Nature Reserve. Due to the pipeline's condition, we've taken a difficult strategic decision to replace 150 metres of this pipeline which is an important asset supplying thousands of domestic and non-domestic properties.
All going well, our work will take approximately two to three weeks to complete. We apologise for any inconvenience and disruption and would like to thank the Weymouth community for your continuing patience and support.
Thursday 8 May - Church Road, Ferndown
We’re carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network on Church Road, Ferndown.
For safety, temporary three-way lights are in place at Church Road’s junction with Westwood Avenue. These lights are being manually controlled during peak times to minimise disruption.
Our repairs are progressing well. Once they are complete, our teams will restore the road surface to the required specifications before the road can be returned to normal.
All going well, we hope to complete repairs, restore the road surface and remove the temporary lights by Tuesday 13 May.
Wednesday 7 May - Bitterne Road West, Southampton
We've been called to a gas escape located on Bitterne Road West at its junction with Athelstan Road in Southampton. Due to the location of gas pipes in the road, we have had to put in place the following temporary emergency road closures for everyone’s safety:
- Two lanes closed westbound on Bitterne Road West at the junction with Athelstan Road. A signed diversion route is in place. Eastbound currently remains unaffected.
- Athelstan Road has been closed at its junction with Bitterne Road West. This closure means no traffic will be able to exit in and out of Athelstan Road at the Bitterne Road West junction.
Bus routes will be affected and we advise passengers to contact their service provider for the latest updates/changes to service.
It's too early to say how long it will take to complete a repair. There are critical utilities crowded under the road and the team are working under ‘safe dig measures’ requiring hand dig excavation – this process takes longer than when using machinery. The team will remain on site until a repair is complete.
We’ll provide updates as soon as we know more.
Tuesday 6 May - A926 between Rattray and Alyth
Emergency repairs to our gas network in the A926 between Rattray and Alyth which began last month are now complete.
We now have extensive reinstatement works to carry out in the carriageway which will take a few days to complete.
The signed diversion route remains in place and we're still on track to have the road re-opened by 10 May.
Please check with your operator for more information on bus service diversions.
Friday 2 May - Ruins Barn Road, Sittingbourne
Following discussions with key local stakeholders and due to the nature of issues and problems surrounding the local community, we have agreed to carry out a temporary reinstatement of the works and remove the road closure in Ruins Barn Road by 4pm today, in time for tonight's important event at the stadium.
We will then need to re-close Ruins Barn Road between its junctions with Cromer Road and Broadoak Road from Saturday 3 May morning so we can continue emergency repairs. A signed diversion route will be in place via Ruins Barn Road, Bexon Lane, The Street, Primrose Lane, Bredgar Road and Tunstall Road - and vice versa.
We have to replace a section of our gas main which is a complex operation and will take approximate two weeks to complete all going well.
Friday 2 May - A225 Dartford Road, Sevenoaks
We’ve carried out repairs to leaking joints on our affected pipes along the A225 Dartford Road, but we’re still investigating further gas escapes at this location.
We’ve identified one of our gas mains is very deep, and to work safely, we need to arrange for specialist trench support to be installed. For everyone’s safety, Dartford Road will remain closed around our work area.
Local traffic should follow the signed diversion route via A225 Dartford Road, A225 High Street, Pembroke Road, A224 London Road, A224 Amherst Hill, A25 London Road, A25 Maidstone Road, A25 Bradbourne Vale Road, A225 St Johns Hill and vice versa.
HGVs should follow the signed diversion route via A225 St John's Hill, A25 Seal Road, A25 High Street, A25 Maidstone Road, A25 Sevenoaks Road, A25 Ightham Bypass, A227 Borough Green Road, A227 Bates Hill, A227 Tonbridge Road, A227 Ightham Road, A227 Shipbourne Road, Old London Road, B245 London Road, A225 Riverhill, A225 Tonbridge Road, A225 High Street, A225 Dartford Road and vice versa.
Bus routes will be affected - please contact the service operator for information on revised routes and bus stop locations.
It’s still too early to provide a date for work to be completed but we’ll continue to post updates here.
Friday 2 May - Whitstable Road, Faversham
Our engineers are carrying out emergency upgrades to our gas main in Whitstable Road, Faversham, between the junctions of Head Hill Road and the A299 Thanet Way.
To ensure everyone's safety, a road closure remains in place. This is following emergency work to investigate and repair the network on 2 April, at the junction with Head Hill Road, when we identified the gas pipe required immediate replacement.
We're making great progress, and all being well, it will be safe to reopen the road by Tuesday evening (6 May).
Friday 2 May - Cardross Road, Dumbarton
We're continuing urgent work in the Cardross Road area after gas readings were identified. Temporary traffic lights were installed around our work area between 9am and 3pm daily for everyone's safety.
While working here, we have identified further gas readings near the Comelybank Lane junction. We need to close this junction to motorists and signed diversions are in place via Oxhill Road and Charlotte Road. Alternative pedestrian crossing points have been setup.
Our engineers will be replacing this pipe in Comelybank Lane due to the poor condition we've found it in. This will prevent further disruption from potential additional repairs in the future.
We anticipate that all repairs and replacement works in this area will be complete by the end of May.
We'd like to thank the Dumbarton community and commuters for their continued patience and support.
Monday 28 April - Hamilton Place, Stockbridge, Edinburgh
We're continuing emergency repairs to our gas network in Hamilton Place, Edinburgh.
We have so far been working under four-way temporary traffic lights however, following our latest investigation our teams now need to implement a full road closure in Hamilton Place in order to complete repairs. We're aiming to put the closure in place before peak morning traffic on Tuesday 29 April.
A signed diversion route will be in place for motorists and buses via Dundas Street, Great King Street, Circus Place and Kerr Street.
This is a difficult repair in challenging conditions including needing to dig through three feet of concrete.
All going well, this work is likely to take approximate two more weeks to complete. We'd like to thanks the Edinburgh community for your continued patience and support.
Friday 25 April - Hyde Street, Winchester
We need to carry out emergency repairs to our gas network in Hyde Street, Winchester.
We're currently closing Hyde Street at it's junction with City Road and North Walls. A signed diversion will be in place for motorists.
We understand this is a busy junction and will be working as quickly and safely as possible to complete these urgent repairs.
It's too early to say at this stage how long repairs will take to complete.
Thursday 24 April - Crieff Road, Perth
We’re carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main in Crieff Road, Perth.
For everyone’s safety, temporary two-way lights are in place at Crieff Road’s junction with Unity Terrace. Unity Terrace is also closed at this junction to help improve traffic flow on the main road.
This is a complex repair which requires extensive work in challenging conditions due to the depth of the affected gas main and close proximity of other underground utilities.
While we’re making progress, more is required to complete repairs and it’s too early to say how long this work will take at this stage.
We’d like to thank the Perth community for your ongoing patience and support.
Thursday 24 April - Hamble Lane, Netley, Southampton
Our engineers have been called to a gas escape on the medium-pressure cast iron gas main located within the footpath on Hamble Lane, opposite the Hound Nurseries.
To ensure we provide an alternative safe pedestrian walkway around our work area and to allow us to safely carry out the required repairs, we've installed two-way temporary traffic lights. These traffic lights will remain in place until the work and reinstatement is complete.
It's too early to say how long the investigation and repairs will take but we’ll provide updates as soon as we have more information.
Wednesday 23 April – Milton Road/Velder Avenue, Portsmouth
We are currently carrying out emergency repairs to our network on the junction of Milton Road and Velder Avenue in Portsmouth.
To avoid the need to close Milton Road for our engineers to complete repairs, we’ll be using a specialist contractor to carry out an innovative bonding and repair process. Work is underway from today (Wednesday 23 April) and the team are measuring up to manufacture a mould cask which will then be wrapped around the gas main and bonded.
For everyone’s safety, lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction at the junction of Milton Road and Velder Avenue.
Our specialist contractors and engineers will be working on and off site over the coming days – this may mean there may be limited visibility of engineers on site at times. Please be assured the repairs of the gas main are an immediate priority.
We’ll provide an update as soon as we have a timeline for carrying out the moulding process and reinstatement work required.
Wednesday 23 April - Dirleton Avenue, North Berwick
We've completed emergency repairs to our gas network in Dirleton Avenue in North Berwick.
We're currently in the process of restoring the road surface to the required specifications. All going well, the road will be reopened as normal by morning peak time on Friday 25 April.
We’d like to thank the North Berwick community once again for your patience and support.
Wednesday 9 April – Weymouth Way, Weymouth
All going well, our work will take approximately five weeks to complete. We apologise for any inconvenience and disruption and would like to thank the Weymouth community for your continuing patience and support.
