Roadworks in your area

We look after more than 74,000 kilometres of pipes across our network. Making sure these pipes deliver your gas safely and reliably means that we need to upgrade or repair them at times. We know that roadworks can be frustrating, but our essential work keeps you, your family and local community safe.

Planned work

Tuesday 17 December - Festing Road, Southsea

We’re continuing emergency repairs to our gas network in Festing Road, Southsea, on the junction of Albert Road and Highland Road. Our work has been planned in close consultation with the local authorities.

In the early stages of this critical project we attempted to repair our gas main, but due to its condition we took the difficult decision to replace the main with new modern plastic pipe instead. We realise this is a traffic sensitive location, but replacing the main now will reduce the overall inconvenience of future repairs and ensure a safe and reliable gas supply to the local community for many years to come.

This is complex engineering project which has been delayed due the requirement of ordering specialist fittings for the gas main replacement. Once the repair is complete, the restoration of the road surface will also take longer than normal due to limited access to reinstatement materials during the festive period.

All going well, we’re aiming to complete the replacement of gas main by the end of January. We apologise for the disruption caused by this work and would like to thank the Southsea community for your ongoing patience and support.

Friday 23 August - Kingsmills Road, Inverness

We need to carry out emergency gas mains replacement work to our network in the Kingsmills Road area of Inverness to ensure the area continues to receive a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Our project will begin on 26 August 2024 and last approximately 17 weeks.

We’re carrying out our work in phases to reduce disruption as much as possible. Kingsmills Road will be closed in three phases.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained during our work. Please note access into the Nursing Home will be open.

All business in the area will be open as normal during our work and access for residents will be always maintained throughout the project.

Emergency gas pipe repairs

When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance. But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night. Sometimes we have to start work before the information filters through to our map. When that happens, we’ll add that information here.

Wednesday 5 February - Upper Grosvenor Road, Tunbridge Wells

We've completed our repairs in Upper Grosvenor Road and we're currently restoring the road surface around our work area.

A section of Upper Grosvenor Road remains closed for everyone's safety but we expect to have the road reopened by the end of Friday 7 February.

Thank you to road users, residents and businesses in Tunbridge Wells for your patience and understanding while we carried out our urgent work.

Monday 3 February - Ringwood Road, Longham

Following the work to repair the gas main on Ringwood Road in Longham, gas readings have been located within the opposite side of the road. Our engineers will be excavating the road to carry out repairs overnight.

For everyone’s safety and due to the location of the gas escapes in the road, we have temporarily closed Ringwood Road, Longham between Bear Cross roundabout and Longham Roundabout with immediate effect. We plan to reopen the road for 6.30am on Tuesday 4 February.

This closure means no through vehicle access past the work location and a signed diversion is in place via Northbourne roundabout, A347 back to Ferndown.

Vehicle access for properties and businesses within the road closure:

  • Properties on odd side up to 109 and evens up to number 66 will be via Bear Wood Roundabout
  • Properties on the other side of the road works will be accessed via the Longham roundabout

Once the road reopens, we will need to return with temporary two-way traffic lights while final reinstatement of the original excavations are completed.

We’re very sorry for the disruption these emergency works may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Monday 3 February - Kings Drive, Eastbourne

We're carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network along Kings Drive.

Our engineers started work on Tuesday 28 January and we've made several repairs to our affected pipes. However, we're still investigating further gas readings in the area.

Temporary traffic lights are in operation around our work area. These lights are being manually controlled to manage traffic flow along this sensitive route.

We expect to finish our work on or before Monday 10 February.

Monday 3 February - Hythe Road, Ashford

Our urgent repairs to our gas network in Hythe Road have been completed.

We'll shortly start work to restore the road surface to its original condition. The temporary traffic lights will remain in operation for safety until our reinstatement process is complete.

All being well, we'll be able to remove these lights by the end of the week.

Wednesday 29 January - Westfield Road, Edinburgh

We are carrying out emergency gas repairs in Westfield Road, Edinburgh.

For everyone's safety and due to the position of the gas main, we need to close the road between its junctions with Stevenson Road and Gorgie Road from around 5.30pm this afternoon.

It’s too early to say at this stage how long our work will take to complete.

Wednesday 22 January - A985, Rosyth

We're carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main in the A985, Rosyth, between Pattiesmuir turnoff and junction of Hilton Road. This work follows on from emergency work earlier this month on a different section of this gas main.

Temporary traffic lights are in place for everyone's safety.

It's too early to say at this stage how long repairs will take to complete.

Monday 13 January - A90 Forfar Road, Dundee

We're carrying out repairs to our gas network in the A90 Forfar Road in Dundee.

For everyone's safety, we've temporarily closed the inside northbound lane.

It's too soon to say how long our repair will take but we're working to complete it as quickly as we can.
