Roadworks in your area

We look after more than 74,000 kilometres of pipes across our network. Making sure these pipes deliver your gas safely and reliably means that we need to upgrade or repair them at times. We know that roadworks can be frustrating, but our essential work keeps you, your family and local community safe.

Planned work

Thursday 16 May - Crewe Road South, Edinburgh

After investigations into a smell of gas at the Crewe Road South junction, our specialist team of engineers have decided to fully replace our gas network at this location. We understand this will be disruptive, but the work will prevent future emergency work and disruption.

In order to do this work safely, the temporary road closure in Crew Road South, between its junctions with Carrington Road and Craigleith Road, will remain in place. The road is closed in both directions.

A signed diversion will be in place via Carrington Road, East Fettes Avenue and Comley Bank Road.

Please be advised, this road closure will affect motorists travelling to and from Western General Hospital. Please allow extra time for your journey. We're liaising closely with the emergency service to limit disruption.

We know this is a busy route and will be working extended hours to complete this upgrade work as quickly and safely as possible.

We anticipate this work to take six weeks to complete.

Emergency gas pipe repairs

When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance. But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night. Sometimes we have to start work before the information filters through to our map. When that happens, we’ll add that information here.

Thursday 16 May - Woolwich Road, London,SE7

We're carrying out emergency repairs in the A206 Woolwich Road, London.

For everyone's safety, Woolwich Road is closed westbound between Eastmoor Street and Woolwich Church Street. A signed diversion is in place for motorists.

Please leave extra time for your journey and please note that local buses are also being diverted.

It's too early to say how long repairs will take to complete however, the road is likely to remain closed westbound into the weekend.

We'll post updates on our progress here.

Thursday 16 May - Sandhurst Road, Tunbridge Wells

We've been investigating a gas escape in Sandhurst Road in Tunbridge Wells since Monday 13 May. We've now identified the source of the leak which is on part of our medium pressure network.

In order to safely carry out repairs on this pipe, we need to arrange for network pressures to be reduced. Once this can be arranged we'll carry out work to complete repairs.

For everyone's safety, Sandhurst Road is temporarily closed between the junctions with Sandhurst Park and Brook Road. Sandhurst Park is also closed in one direction and there are temporary two-way traffic lights outside 179 Sandhurst Road. The signed diversion route is via Upper Grosvenor Road, Grosvenor Bridge, Quarry Road, Camden Road, Calvery Road, A264 Pembury Road, Sandhurst Road, and vice versa.

We're sorry for any inconvenience our work may cause.

Thursday 16 May - Marshalls Road, Eastbourne

Since Tuesday 14 May, we’ve been investigating the source of a gas escape near the entrance of Dunelm in the Hampden Retail Centre, Marshall Road, Eastbourne.

We’ve now identified the source of the leak and need to carry out urgent network repairs. To keep everyone safe around our work, we’ll need to install temporary four-way traffic lights at the Marshall Roundabout after 4pm today.

We’re aware this is a very busy location, so we’ll have two operatives on site to manually control the traffic lights. It’s too early to say how long this work will take, but we’ll provide updates here.

We’re sorry for any disruption our work may cause and thanks to the local community for their patience while we carry out this urgent work

Monday 13 May - A267 Frant Road Tunbridge Wells

We're continuing to carry out urgent network repairs along A267 Frant Road in Tunbridge Wells.

The road has now been reopened between its junctions with Montecute Road and Roedean Road as planned, and we're carrying out our repairs under temporary traffic lights.

These lights will be manually controlled during peak times.

Wednesday 8 May - High Street, Margate

Our engineers have been investigating a gas leak in High Street, Margate, outside St John the Baptist Church.

The source of the leak has now been identified and our specialist team has decided to replace our gas main in High Street, rather than carry out emergency repairs. This will avoid any future disruption.

High Street remains closed around our work area so that our team can safely upgrade our network.

From the Queens Road Roundabout, traffic can only travel one way along Grosvenor Gardens and into Churchfields, but there is no access into the High Street. Signed diversion routes will be in place for motorists.

* We’ve arranged to reopen the High Street temporarily over the weekend of 10 to 12 May. This will allow Network Rail to continue their planned engineering works on Bridge 826 for which they need to close Ramsgate Road and use the High Street as a diversion route.

Our closure will once again be in place from Monday 13 May. All going well, our work will be completed on Sunday 19 May.

Wednesday 8 May - A28 Ashford Road, Chilham.

We’re continuing urgent repairs to fix a leak on our medium pressure main along A28 Ashford Road at Chilham.

For everyone’s safety, A28 Ashford Road is closed to motorists between its junctions with Branch Road and Pope Street. A signed diversion route via the A28, A2040, A251 and A252 is in place for affected road users.

This is a complex engineering procedure involving specialist equipment.

It is likely that our site will be unmanned periodically while we wait for the specialist equipment to be delivered to site. We will however be carrying out regular site safety checks and monitoring the leak.

We estimate the road will be closed until Tuesday 14 May. We apologise for the impact on the community and road users, but this work is essential to ensuring local homes and business continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

Wednesday 8 May – Duke Street, Glasgow

Our engineers are continuing essential emergency repairs to our gas main in Duke Street, Glasgow

In order to complete repairs, our team has put a full road closure in place between Duke Street’s junctions with Shettleston Road and Todd Street. This is complex engineering work being carried out in deep excavations using specialist equipment and contractors.

Our repair work is now complete. We now need to safely restore the road surface to the required specifications before it can reopened as normal. This is a lengthy process due to the number and depth of excavations in the road. At this time it's still too early to say how long this will take however, we aim to update you soon.

We’d like to than Glasgow residents, motorists and businesses for your patience and understanding while we work as quickly and safely as possible to repair your gas network.

Tuesday 23 April - Popley Way, Basingstoke

We’re carrying out emergency work in Popley Way, Basingstoke, to improve the gas pressure in our network. This essential work involves increasing the size of the gas service to Apollo Hotel.

To ensure everyone’s safety, we have closed Popley Road one-way, for motorists entering Popley Way from Aldermaston Roundabout. A signed diversion route is in place. Motorists exiting Popley Way onto the roundabout are unaffected.

All going well, we hope to complete our work, restore the road surface and reopen Popely Way as normal by Wednesday 1 May.

We apologise for any disruption and would like to thank anyone affected for your patience while we carry out this urgent work.

Thursday 18 April - Strathmore Street, Perth

We're carrying out urgent network repairs at the junction of Strathmore Street and Isla Road.

Our engineers are working to fix a leak and there's temporary traffic lights in place around our work area to ensure everyone's safety and manage traffic flow.

It's too early to say how long it will take to complete this work but updates will be provided here.

Friday 12 April - Plumstead High Street

We need to renew our gas network in Plumstead High Street.

Following discussion with Greenwich Council, we have installed three-way traffic lights at this location and implemented a closure of Woodhurst Road. One of the team will man the lights from 7am until 7pm to minimise disruption.

All being well, the work within the road closure should be completed and cleared by 26 April, at which time we will set up a smaller road closure in Camrose Street with some carriageway incursion in Plumstead High Street. The second phase should be completed in approximately three weeks.

Our team is working seven days a week to ensure any disruption to the local community is minimised.
