Loss of gas supplies, Gomshall

Date:
12 Jan 2025

Monday 13 January - 5pm update

Gas is now available to properties affected during this incident and we're reconnecting supplies in the local area.

If a card has been left at your property, please call the contact number as soon as possible to rearrange a visit from one of our engineers.

You can also come and speak with our team who will be at the sports & social club in Queen Street until 8pm today.

We're very grateful for your patience while we work to restore gas supplies.

Monday 13 January - 1.45pm update

Our work today to extract the water from our flooded gas network is going well.

We're using specialist camera equipment to check another section of pipe this afternoon. If the results of this are positive, we will look to begin restoring supplies later this afternoon, starting with the homes of vulnerable customers.

Please do not try to turn your gas supply back on yourself. We know it is frustrating to be without your gas supply, but it's important you wait for an engineer to visit.

If you have any questions, please speak to our team who are on site at the sports & social club in Queen Street.

Our next update on progress will be posted here today by 8pm.

We apologise again for the inconvenience caused.

Monday 13 January - 10am update

We have now visited each affected property to turn off gas supplies at the meter. If you were out when we tried to visit you, please go and speak to our team at Gomshall Village Sports & Social Club, Queen St, Gomshall, GU5 9LY, where we have set up a Customer Centre, and they will arrange for one of our engineers to re-visit.

Work to extract the water which flooded our gas network is ongoing, and so far we've removed over 1100 litres from our pipes. This work will continue throughout the day.

We can't turn gas supplies back on until all of the water has been removed from our network, and at the moment it's too early to estimate when that work will be complete.

We have electric heaters and hot plates for cooking available for those who need them. Please visit our team at the Customer Centre, or call us on 0800 912 1717 if you require additional support.

We understand it's difficult being without your gas supply, especially in this cold weather, and we're working as hard as we can to resolve the situation.

Our next update on progress will be posted here at 2pm.

Sunday 12 January - 7pm

Our engineers are on site in the Gomshall, where we're aware that gas supplies to approximately 360 properties are affected as a result of water entering our network due to a burst water main.

The streets affected are:

  • Leather Lane
  • Tower Hill
  • Burrows Lane
  • High View
  • The Maltings
  • Goose Green
  • Archery Place
  • Gravel Pits
  • Heathrow

  • New Road
  • Queen Street

We've carried out emergency repairs to our gas pipe to stop more water entering our network, and work to remove the water will begin as soon as possible.

Currently, our engineers are working to visit each affected property individually to turn off gas supplies at the meter. This work will continue late into the evening.

We have electric heaters and hot plates for cooking available for those who need them. If you are a elderly, disabled, have young children, or any other vulnerable circumstances and require support, please call our Customer Service Team on 0800 912 1717.

We'll post an update on our progress here tomorrow morning.
