A team of SGN volunteers recently gave the Aldershot Military Museum a much-needed makeover for all its visitors to safely enjoy.

The museum preserves and tells the story of Aldershot’s military history, focusing on soldiers and civilians since 1854. It is housed in the only surviving brick-built barrack blocks left in Aldershot.

An army of six of our Legal team colleagues ditched their day jobs and donned their uniforms to restore the museum to its former glory.

Paths were cleared of debris, its assault course had a mountain of leaves removed, and a statue of the 17th Century North Hampshire Regiment Drummer was moved to the site’s café.

The visit was part of SGN’s Community Action Programme, which gives every employee a day of company time each year to help a charity or organisation of their choice, with hundreds of colleagues helping their local communities every year.

Mark Allison from the Hampshire Cultural Trust said: “We are so grateful to the team from SGN helping us tidy up the museum and install our drummer boy statue in our café. We rely on help from volunteers to keep the museum running and to help provide a safe and engaging venue for our visitors.”

Raymond Gill, Assurance Specialist at SGN, said: “History is passion of mine and this museum makes me feel I’ve travelled back in time.

"It was good to spend time together as a team outside of work and give something back to a museum I've visited several times over the years."
