Tunbridge Wells, Pembury Road

Update - Friday 18 August

Our network upgrades and associated resurfacing works were completed this week, enabling the safe reopening of Pembury Road yesterday morning (Thursday).

Additional resources provided by our contractor ensured we were able to complete this work more than two weeks ahead of schedule.

During our project, we worked collaboratively with Kent Highways to help minimise future disruption to the community. Their teams are making the most of our road closure to replace damaged kerbs, clean gullies and cut back excess vegetation along Pembury Road, rather than returning at a later date.

Thank you to residents and road users in the area for your patience and understanding while we carried out this essential work to ensure the community receives a safe and reliable supply of gas for many years to come.

We're upgrading our gas network in the Pembury Road area of Tunbridge Wells, which will involve replacing our old metal gas mains and services with new plastic pipes. This essential work will ensure the local community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

In consultation with Kent County Council, our contractor WCB Utilities will be completing this project on our behalf. Our work will begin on Monday 29 May, working in Sandown Park, Sandown Close, Sandown Grove and Swallow Drive.

Due to the position of the pipes in the road and to ensure the safety of everyone around our worksite, we will need to close some of the roads around our works area. This work has been scheduled for the school holiday period to try to reduce disruption as much as possible.

Pembury Road – from Monday 24 July, we'll be working from the junctions with the A21/A228 to the junction with Sandown Park, with an estimated end date of Friday 1 September. A signed diversion will be in place via the A264, A21 and A26.

Cornford Lane will also be closed at its junction with Halls Hole Road during this time to discourage drivers from attempting to use it as an unsuitable diversion route. A signed diversion will be in place via Halls Hole Road, A264 Pembury Road, Sandhurst Road, Liptraps Lane, Lamberts Road, Longfield Road, Tonbridge Road and the High Street.

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

We understand people can get frustrated by roadworks and therefore we only use traffic management that we feel is efficient enough to complete these works safely for ourselves and the public.
