Environmental, Social and Governance

Reducing our environmental impact

Our 2025/26 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report provides an overview of our performance across environmental, social and governance issues that matter most to SGN and our stakeholders. As the final year of the RIIO-GD2 price control period, the report also provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made while preparing for the commitments and ambitions of RIIO-GD3.

Reducing our environmental impact remains a key priority. During 2025/26, our Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduced by over 10%, driven largely by continued reductions in leakage from our network. Since our 2019 baseline year, shrinkage emissions have reduced by 19.3%. We also continued to support nature and biodiversity, delivering 37 biodiversity improvement projects during the year, alongside further investment in biomethane and other solutions that can support the transition to a lower-carbon energy system.

Supporting communities

Our social commitments focused on our people, customers and communities. We continued to invest in our people, including £4.5 million in training during the year, while maintaining our focus on employee safety, wellbeing and creating an inclusive workplace. During 2025/26, we supported over 600,000 vulnerable customers through our dedicated initiatives and partnerships, alongside maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and the safe and reliable operation of our network.

Strong governance supports he delivery of these commitments and helps ensure transparency and accountability across our business. During the year, we maintained exceptional levels of network reliability and continued the improvements made during GD2 in our response to controlled and uncontrolled gas escapes.

As we move into RIIO-GD3, our focus is on building on the progress made during GD2 and establishing strong momentum against our new environmental and social commitments.
