This week, organisations across Scotland are marking Scottish Apprenticeship Week. This annual campaign celebrates the benefits apprenticeships bring to individuals, businesses and the economy.
In recent years, at SGN we’ve made great strides in expanding our apprenticeship, graduate and trainee programmes to ensure we continue to serve the two million households and businesses that rely upon our network. We currently have 7.5% of our people on early career schemes, with 93 of our Scottish workforce on apprenticeships and training programmes. We’ve been able to create opportunities for young people to enter the gas industry, acquire valuable skills, make a real difference to the communities we serve and be part of the workforce of the future.
As part of our deep belief in the transformative power of training and development, we’re pleased to announce our membership in The 5% Club.
We’ve joined over 1,000 employers across the UK committed to providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to help people build meaningful, long-term careers. The 5% Club’s goal is simple: to ensure that 5% of the workforce at each member organisation is made up of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.
We also recognise that apprenticeships offer an invaluable route into employment for people from all backgrounds. The more inclusive we can make these programmes, the more we can contribute to a prosperous, socially mobile society. It’s also important our workforce reflects the communities we serve.
I’m incredibly proud of how at SGN we are fostering a culture of learning and development. We will continue to invest in training and skills development to ensure we are building a workforce that is fit for the future.
