Our commitment to supporting veterans and their families transitioning from the armed forces to civilian roles has been recognised with a gold award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The award demonstrates the active role we take in supporting the forces community in practical ways, as well as advocating support for the community to our internal and external stakeholders. It complements our existing membership of the Armed Forces Covenant, which affirms our commitment to supporting those who have served in the military and their families.

As an inclusive business with people from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, we recognise the skills and experience of military personnel can bring as we keep the gas flowing to nearly six million customers across Scotland and the south of England.

From supporting veterans through the recruitment process to offering flexibility for reservists and families, we support ex-military personnel to transition into civilian life.

We encourage applications from veterans and reservists by advertising external vacancies on the Career Transition Partnerships (CTP) website, as well as attending CTP careers fairs throughout the UK.

During the recruitment process, we work closely with our veteran and reservist recruits to make sure they are supported throughout onboarding and beyond. Through our commitment to developing our people, we’re able to offer genuine opportunities for progression.

Katie Harkness, In-House Recruiter, said: “We’ve known for a long time about the vast array of skills and hands on experience service leavers and reservists can bring to our workforce and we really value what those who have served can bring to enhance our company. We also recognise the important role we play as an employer in supporting veterans in their transition to civilian employment and in developing a fulfilling career path. I’m delighted we’ve received the gold award and proud to be supportive of our reservists, veterans, cadet force volunteers, spouses/partners, and the wider Armed Forces community.”
