We’ve been recognised for leading the way in customer service with two wins at the prestigious UK Business Awards.

During the virtual ceremony yesterday, which was attended by over 200 business professionals, we won gold in the Maggie Colman Customer Service category and were awarded a silver for Best Customer Experience – Large Organisation.

Meanwhile, an on-site safety and productivity platform, developed by technology company FYLD in collaboration with our company, received silver in the Best New Business category. The digital platform eliminates the need for paper-based reporting and empowers field teams and managers to make proactive, data-led decisions in real time.

The UK Business Awards celebrate the heroic people in business in the Covid era – the people who have fought and survived and those who have coped with unprecedented change and growth.

The customer award wins for us reflect the insight gathered from our customers and stakeholders to understand what matters to them, to shape our business and engage our people to meet their needs.

Our Head of Customer Experience Maureen McIntosh said: “The pandemic amplified existing challenges and introduced new ones, such as an increase in number of vulnerable customers. We responded to changing customer needs and adapted support to introduce new services for customers that society would not typically expect from a gas network.

“These services have supported people in crisis, and include food and fuel vouchers and friendship teams. Since launching, we’ve helped over 1,900 customers access support.”

Customer Experience Manager Deborah Cane, who attended the ceremony, added: “We've really focused on training and upskilling our people so to win is brilliant, The gold win is a very special award indeed, given it’s in memory of Maggie Colman who led the way in demonstrating dedication and commitment to her clients in businesses around the UK.”

The online event was hosted by Paralympic cycling champion Mark Colbourne MBE while there was an introduction from keynote speaker Sam Moinet, founder of Student Breakthrough.
