We look after more than 74,000 kilometres of pipes across our network. Making sure these pipes deliver your gas safely and reliably means that we need to upgrade or repair them at times. We know that roadworks can be frustrating, but our essential work keeps you, your family and local community safe.

Planned work
Friday 28 February - A985 Admiralty Road, Rosyth
Our engineers are carrying out emergency upgrade work to our gas main in the A985 Admiralty Road, between Dunfermline Road and Brankholm Brae Roundabout.
This section of our gas main has come to the end of its useable life, so we are upgrading it to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local community.
Our project has progressed well, and we’re now at the stage where an overground bypass is required to complete the final stages of our work, whilst keeping the gas flowing to local homes and businesses.
For safety reasons, the road must be closed westbound around our working area whilst the bypass is in place. A signed diversion route will be in place for motorists via the B980, A823, A907, and A994 westbound to Cairneyhill roundabout. The road closure will be implemented on Thursday 6 March.
Some bus services will also be affected for the duration of our works. For more information on which services are affected, and the temporary replacement services, please visit: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-updates
We know this is a very busy route, and will be working extended hours, every day of the week, to complete our project as quickly as possible. All being well, we expect to have completed our work and have the road re-opened in one week, by Friday 14 March.
We’ve carried out multiple repairs in this stretch of road in recent months, so this permanent repair will reduce further disruption.
Monday 17 February - A926 between Rattray and Alyth
We've previously carried out repairs to our gas network in the A926 between Rattray and Alyth, however after further investigation we now need to urgently replace this section of our gas network from Monday 17 February.
The existing 600m section of our gas pipe, which supplies gas to the local community, has come to the end of its useable life. This upgrade work is critical to ensure that over 7,000 homes in the area continue to receive their gas supply. We expect our project to take six weeks to complete.
In line with Scottish Legislation (NRSWA), the road must be closed in this location to ensure everyone's safety while we carry out our work. A signed diversion route is in place for motorists via the B954, A94 and A923.
Stagecoach Service 57/57A will be impacted by this closure. We've worked closely with Perth and Kinross Council Transport Department to arrange the following replacement services:
Dundee and Perth bound services will operate between Meigle and Blairgowrie Wellmeadow via the A94 - Coupar Angus – A923. Services will not operate via Rattray, New Alyth & Alyth.
Passengers from Rattray will require to access Service 57/57A at Blairgowrie Wellmeadow.
Passengers from New Alyth & Alyth will be linked to Service 57/57A at Meigle by a shuttle bus operating a reduced timetable, shown here.
Blairgowrie Freedom Coach will operate the earlier morning commuter journeys on Mondays to Saturdays for the six-week period, while Stagecoach will undertake off peak journeys during the day and the early evening journeys. No late evening journeys or Sunday shuttle service will operate.
We're sorry for the inconvenience this will cause and want to assure you we are working as quickly as possible to complete our work and re-open the road.
Tuesday 17 December - Festing Road, Southsea
We’re continuing emergency repairs to our gas network in Festing Road, Southsea, on the junction of Albert Road and Highland Road. Our work has been planned in close consultation with the local authorities.
In the early stages of this critical project we attempted to repair our gas main, but due to its condition we took the difficult decision to replace the main with new modern plastic pipe instead. We realise this is a traffic sensitive location, but replacing the main now will reduce the overall inconvenience of future repairs and ensure a safe and reliable gas supply to the local community for many years to come.
This is complex engineering project which has been delayed due the requirement of ordering specialist fittings for the gas main replacement. Once the repair is complete, the restoration of the road surface will also take longer than normal due to limited access to reinstatement materials during the festive period.
All going well, we’re aiming to complete the replacement of gas main by the end of January. We apologise for the disruption caused by this work and would like to thank the Southsea community for your ongoing patience and support.
Emergency gas pipe repairs
When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance. But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night. Sometimes we have to start work before the information filters through to our map. When that happens, we’ll add that information here.
Thursday 27 February - A2021 Kings Drive, Eastbourne
We're repairing our network in the A2021 Kings Drive, Eastbourne following reports of a gas escape.
For everyone's safety around our work area, we've installed temporary two-way traffic lights in Kings Drive between the junctions with Decoy Drive and Regents Place. We're manually operating the traffic lights from 7am to 7pm to keep junctions clear and the traffic flowing.
Our work started today and it's too soon to say how long our repair will take to complete – we'll provide updates here.
Thursday 27 February - Flexford Close, Eastleigh
Our engineers are waiting for Clancy to complete repairs to the water main located in Baddlesley Road before we can safely complete further investigations and necessary repairs to our gas network in Flexford Close, Eastleigh. In the meantime, our engineers will be closely monitoring the site.
Once Clancy are complete, we will be able to start our investigations and repairs. This will involve excavations and potential traffic management on the road. At this stage, we don’t know what traffic management will be required or how long work will take to complete.
We'll provide progress updates here. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Wednesday 26 February - Hambridge Road, Newbury
We're repairing multiple leaks on our gas main in Hambridge Road, Newbury.
For everyone's safety around our work area outside Unit 12, we've installed temporary two-way traffic lights which are being manually controlled to help traffic flow.
We're working to complete our repairs as quickly as possible.
Monday 24 February - Goldsworth Road, Woking
Goldsworth Road remains closed to ensure everyone’s safety while we carry out urgent gas network repairs following damage caused by water entering our pipes recently.
The damage sustained to our pipes is irreparable and we need to replace a section of our network instead. This work is expected to take until the end of the week. We will then restore the areas we’ve disturbed, and so Goldsworth Road is unlikely to be safe t reopen until early next week.
A signed diversion is in place for affected motorists. Access is maintained to all residential and commercial properties around our closure area.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating for local residents, businesses and road users. However, this work is essential to ensuring a safe and reliable gas supply is delivered to nearby properties.
Monday 24 February - A26 Malling Hill, Lewes
We completed our urgent gas network repairs at the A26 Malling Hill's junction with Mill Road and Church Lane on Sunday 23 February.
We're now working to restore the areas we disturbed to access and repair our affected pipes.
The temporary traffic lights installed at this junction, remain in operation to ensure everyone's safety while we complete this resurfacing work. We're continuing to manually operate the lights to help manage traffic flow. However, we advise leaving additional time for your journeys, especially at peak times.
We have several excavations we need to reinstate, and the road surface is very thick at this location, therefore it could take some time for our resurfacing works to finish and enable the lights to be removed. We anticipate these lights could be safe to be removed by Tuesday morning (25 February).
Church Lane also remains closed at this time. Access to South Malling Primary School is via A2029, Brooks Road, South Downs Road, Mayhew Way and Church Lane.
Friday 21 February - Eastney Road, Portsmouth
From 6pm this evening, we need to close Eastney Road to northbound motorists between Devonshire Avenue and Middlesex Road, so we can safely carry out urgent gas network repairs.
The map below outlines the closure area and diversion route.
What does this closure mean?
- No vehicle access northbound at the traffic lights on Eastney Road and Devonshire Avenue.
- Northbound motorists will be diverted via Devonshire Avenue, Winter Road and Goldsmith Road.
- Suffolk Road and Middlesex Road will also be closed at their junctions with Eastney Road. Vehicle access in and out will be via Prince Albert Road.
- Vehicles will not be able to turn right out of Glasgow Road. Motorists will need to follow the diversion route to head northbound.
- Vehicles from side roads north of the closure will be able to turn right into the northbound lane.
- Deliveries for businesses will be maintained where possible.
- Southbound travel is unaffected by this work.

Bus impacts during the closure
The following bus stops will be affected:
- Bransbury Park bus stop will be closed. Please use the temporary stop on Devonshire Avenue located outside the surgery.
- Essex Road bus stop will be closed.
- The bus stop on Prince Albert Road will not be operational for the number one service and university bus. All other buses will stop here as normal.
Affected buses will be diverted as follows:
- The number one and university bus services will be diverted via Devonshire Avenue and Winter Road.
- The number two and SD7 services will be diverted via Devonshire Avenue, Winter Road and Goldsmith Avenue.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout. Businesses will remain open around our closure area as normal.
It's too early to suggest how long the required repairs might take, but our engineers will be doing everything they can to complete this work as soon as possible. We'll be updating this page on our progress.
Thursday 20 February - High Street/Hockliffe Street, Leighton Buzzard
Our engineers are on site carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main at the junction of High Street and Hockliffe Street.
Due to the location of our gas main, and Hockliffe Street being a one-way system, we've had to implement road closures to prevent traffic from accessing Hockliffe Street.
This means the junctions of Lake Street/Duncombe Drive, and West Street/Bridge Street are closed to motorists. Local access is being maintained for residents.
We expect our work to be completed in approximately one week - sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.
Friday 14 February - Cow Wynd, Falkirk
We've completed repairs to our gas network in Cow Wynd, Falkirk following a gas escape.
We will today reopen one lane at its junction with St Crispins Place, where we closed the road in both directions on Wednesday.
We need to fully restore the road surface to the required specifications before the road can be reopened as normal.
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your continued patience during this essential work.
Monday 10 February - Lindsaybeg Road, Glasgow
We need to carry out emergency repairs to our gas network in Lindsaybeg Road.
Due to the location of our gas main, and to ensure everyone's safety, we need to close the road between the junctions of Orchard Brae and Orchard Field.
At the moment, it's too early to say how long it will take to complete our work but we expect the road closure to be in place for at least one week.
Friday 7 February – Edinburgh Road, Dumfries
We’re carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network on Edinburgh Road, Dumfries.
Three-way temporary traffic lights are in place at Edinburgh Road’s junction with Milehouse Crescent for the safety of road users, pedestrians and our engineers. We are aware that there is already severe travel disruption in Dumfries due to various road works, so we apologise for the additional disruption and inconvenience this may cause. However, it’s essential these emergency works take place now for everyone’s safety.
It’s too early to say how long repairs will take to complete at this stage.
Monday 3 February - Ringwood Road, Longham
Following the work to repair the gas main on Ringwood Road in Longham, gas readings have been located within the opposite side of the road. Our engineers will be excavating the road to carry out repairs overnight.
For everyone’s safety and due to the location of the gas escapes in the road, we have temporarily closed Ringwood Road, Longham between Bear Cross roundabout and Longham Roundabout with immediate effect. We plan to reopen the road for 6.30am on Tuesday 4 February.
This closure means no through vehicle access past the work location and a signed diversion is in place via Northbourne roundabout, A347 back to Ferndown.
Vehicle access for properties and businesses within the road closure:
- Properties on odd side up to 109 and evens up to number 66 will be via Bear Wood Roundabout
- Properties on the other side of the road works will be accessed via the Longham roundabout
Once the road reopens, we will need to return with temporary two-way traffic lights while final reinstatement of the original excavations are completed.
We’re very sorry for the disruption these emergency works may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Wednesday 29 January - Westfield Road, Edinburgh
We are carrying out emergency gas repairs in Westfield Road, Edinburgh.
For everyone's safety and due to the position of the gas main, we need to close the road between its junctions with Stevenson Road and Gorgie Road from around 5.30pm this afternoon.
It’s too early to say at this stage how long our work will take to complete.
Wednesday 22 January - A985, Rosyth
