We look after more than 74,000 kilometres of pipes across our network. Making sure these pipes deliver your gas safely and reliably means that we need to upgrade or repair them at times. We know that roadworks can be frustrating, but our essential work keeps you, your family and local community safe.

Planned work
Tuesday 17 December - Festing Road, Southsea
We’re continuing emergency repairs to our gas network in Festing Road, Southsea, on the junction of Albert Road and Highland Road. Our work has been planned in close consultation with the local authorities.
In the early stages of this critical project we attempted to repair our gas main, but due to its condition we took the difficult decision to replace the main with new modern plastic pipe instead. We realise this is a traffic sensitive location, but replacing the main now will reduce the overall inconvenience of future repairs and ensure a safe and reliable gas supply to the local community for many years to come.
This is complex engineering project which has been delayed due the requirement of ordering specialist fittings for the gas main replacement. Once the repair is complete, the restoration of the road surface will also take longer than normal due to limited access to reinstatement materials during the festive period.
All going well, we’re aiming to complete the replacement of gas main by the end of January. We apologise for the disruption caused by this work and would like to thank the Southsea community for your ongoing patience and support.
Friday 23 August - Kingsmills Road, Inverness
We need to carry out emergency gas mains replacement work to our network in the Kingsmills Road area of Inverness to ensure the area continues to receive a continued safe and reliable gas supply.
Our project will begin on 26 August 2024 and last approximately 17 weeks.
We’re carrying out our work in phases to reduce disruption as much as possible. Kingsmills Road will be closed in three phases.
Emergency vehicle access will be maintained during our work. Please note access into the Nursing Home will be open.
All business in the area will be open as normal during our work and access for residents will be always maintained throughout the project.
Emergency gas pipe repairs
When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance. But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night. Sometimes we have to start work before the information filters through to our map. When that happens, we’ll add that information here.
Wednesday 29 January - Westfield Road, Edinburgh
We are carrying out emergency gas repairs in Westfield Road, Edinburgh.
For everyone's safety and due to the position of the gas main, we need to close the road between its junctions with Stevenson Road and Gorgie Road from around 5.30pm this afternoon.
It’s too early to say at this stage how long our work will take to complete.
Tuesday 28 January - Upper Grosvenor Road, Tunbridge Wells
We've been investigating the source of a gas leak in Upper Grosvenor Road, between its junctions with Queens Road and Silverdale Hill, since the start of the month. We've made several repairs to our gas network already and we're reinstating around our work area.
A section of Upper Grosvenor Road remains closed to ensure everyone's ongoing safety. Some bus routes are affected by this closure. We advise passengers to check with their provider for updates to services, routes, timetables and bus stop locations.
Once the reinstatement is complete, we'll be able to reopen Upper Grovesnor Road. However, we've identified an additional leak further along the road, but we hope to complete this section of work using temporary traffic lights.
We're working to complete these repairs as quickly as we can, although it's too early to say how long this work will take. Thank you to road users, residents and businesses in Tunbridge Wells for your patience.
Tuesday 28 January - Brighton Road, Sutton
Urgent repairs to our network in Brighton Road are continuing. Two-way temporary traffic lights are now in place on Brighton Road, between Effingham Close and Christchurch Park, after our engineers completed repairs near Cedar Road.
We recognise this is a traffic sensitive location and to help with this we have an operative on site between 7am and 7pm to manually control the traffic lights. We're using our latest technology to try and speed up our required repairs at this location, and we’re working extended hours where possible, although there may be times that we need to divert our resources away to assist on other reported escapes with an immediate threat to life or property.
We’re sorry for the disruption being caused and thank the local community for their patience while we carry out this essential work.
Monday 27 January - Hythe Road, Ashford
We're investigating the source of a reported gas escape in Hythe Road, Ashford.
For everyone's safety, we've installed temporary two-way traffic lights around our work area. We'll also be working extended hours where possible.
It's too soon to say how long our work will take but we'll provide updates here.
Wednesday 22 January - A985, Rosyth
We're carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main in the A985, Rosyth, between Pattiesmuir turnoff and junction of Hilton Road. This work follows on from emergency work earlier this month on a different section of this gas main.
Temporary traffic lights are in place for everyone's safety.
It's too early to say at this stage how long repairs will take to complete.
Monday 13 January - A90 Forfar Road, Dundee
We're carrying out repairs to our gas network in the A90 Forfar Road in Dundee.
For everyone's safety, we've temporarily closed the inside northbound lane.
