We're carrying out critical repairs to our gas network in the A7 between Old Dalkeith Road, Lady Road, and Dalkeith Road.
Our work will begin on Monday 26 August and is essential to ensure a continued gas supply to the surrounding homes and businesses in the area.
Due to the location of the gas pipes requiring emergency repairs, we are faced with engineering challenges.
To ensure everyone’s safety while this work takes place, it is essential to close the westbound side of Cameron Toll roundabout for the eight-week project duration.
This means traffic approaching Cameron Toll roundabout from Lady Road, Peffermill Road or Old Dalkeith Road won't be able to head towards Dalkeith Road. Local diversion routes will be in place for motorists at all times, shown on the map below.
We know this is an extremely busy route and would urge motorists to plan ahead and allow more time for their journeys.
We would like to apologise in advance for the inconvenience this will cause to motorists and the local community. While there is no ideal time to carry out work in the A7, it is critical that we repair our gas pipes. We'll be working extended hours and weekends where possible.
We're aware the road surface at this location on the A7 was recently resurfaced. Unfortunately, we have no control over when our gas pipes will become damaged. In this case, the gas escape was reported after the resurfacing works were completed, so it wasn't possible to carry out our work under the same closure.
Please be assured that when our emergency work is completed, we will ensure the road surface is left as we found it.
Update - Tuesday 24 September
While carrying out repairs to our gas main and replacing the leaking gas main on Cameron Toll roundabout on the north side of the A7, we discovered a damaged water main that restricted us from excavating on our gas main.
After removing over 20,000 litres of water from the excavations over the past 3 weeks, we needed to allow time for the water company to repair their pipe before we could continue our work and access our pipe safely.
This unexpected delay means the road is now expected to reopen on Friday 25 October, one week later than originally planned. However, our new gas main will secure the gas supply to properties in the local area and the current works will provide a permanent fix for the current leaks on this section of our gas network and reduces the risk of any further leaks in the future.
