Ashford, A292 New Street

We're carrying out essential gas network upgrades in the A292 New Street area. This work will ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is delivered to Ashford homes and businesses.

Working to keep you safe and warm

What we're doing

We'll be replacing our old metal pipes in the A292 New Street area. This is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.

When we're working

Our work will start on Tuesday 7 April and be carried out in phases to help minimise disruption. This project is expected to last approximately eight weeks.

Where we'll be working

We'll be replacing our old pipes along A292 New Street, from Magazine Road to its junction with Somerset Road and Forge Lane. For everyone's safety, we need to install some temporary traffic measures while we carry out this work.

Phase one (starting Tue 7 Apr)

  • A292 New Street will be closed to southbound motorists
  • A signed diversion route will be in place for affected road users
  • Public access to the Barnardo's, Farm Foods and The Gym Group car park will be unavailable
  • Scheduled deliveries for Lidl, Barnardo's, Farm Foods and The Gym Group will be available, and an operative will be on-hand 24 hours a day to assist through our closure area
  • Customers can access the Lidl car park via the signed diversion route

Phase two (starting Tue 5 May)

  • A292 New Street will be closed to southbound motorists between the Barnardo's car park and Somerset Road
  • Somerset Road will be closed to motorists in both directions near to its junction with A292 New Street
  • Signed diversions will be in place for affected road users
  • Temporary traffic lights will also be in operation on A292 New Street
  • An operative will be on site to help manage traffic flow and enable access to businesses

A map outlining the closure areas and diversion routes can be found at the foot of this page.

Important information for accessing County Square during phase two

  • Shoppers can reach the car park via the diversion route via Bolt Roundabout, and enter County Square through Elphick Road as normal
  • HGVs will need to follow the signed diversion via West Street and Regents Place (with the one-way system temporarily reversed)
  • Residents in surrounding roads should follow the directional signage in place to help guide you through the temporary layout

Important information for accessing Applegreen service station during our project

  • Access to this service station will only be available to cars and light vehicles
  • Drivers can reach the service station via the main diversion route, then Park Street and Edinburgh Road

We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, this work is essential to ensuring nearby properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.
