Battle, A2100 Battle Hill

We're preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the A2100 Battle Hill area in East Sussex.

This work will ensure properties across Battle continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.

Project update - Thursday 11 September

Our engineers have been working hard to replace our pipes along A2100 Battle Hill and have managed to finish ahead of schedule on Tuesday 9 September.

Work to restore the road surface is now in progress. All going well we expect to be able to remove our closure and reopen the road on the evening of Friday 12 September.

We thank Battle residents and road users for their patience and consideration while we carried out this essential work.

Project update - Friday 29 August

  • Our gas network upgrades will now start on Monday 1 September
  • This work was delayed while East Sussex County Council completed its Queensway Gateway project (due to finish on Sunday 31 August)
  • A road closure will be in place for everyone's safety

We'll be replacing our old pipes along a section of A2100 Battle Hill. Our work is expected to take six weeks to complete.

During this time, and to ensure everyone's safety, A2100 Battle Hill will be closed between its junction with Glengorse and the railway bridge. Affected motorists should follow the signed diversion route in place.

What do the closures mean for me?

  • Vehicle access for residents and businesses will be maintained where it is safe to do so. Our engineers and local signage will keep road users and residents informed.
  • Bus routes will be impacted. We advise residents to contact their service provider for the latest updates on changes to services/routes, timetables and bus stop locations.
  • We’ll work with the local council to ensure refuse collections can continue to be made with as little disruption as possible.
  • Emergency services will be informed about the road closure and will have contingency plans in place while roads are closed.

We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
