We're carrying out essential gas network upgrades in the Blendon Road area from mid-February. This work will ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is delivered to nearby homes and businesses.
Working to keep you safe and warm
What we're doing
We're replacing our old metal pipes in phases along Blendon Road. This is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.
When we're working
Our work will start on Monday 12 February. These essential gas network upgrades are expected to last approximately six weeks.
From Monday 12 February our engineers will be working between 111 and 183 Blendon Road.
To safely access our pipes, we need to close the eastbound lane of Blendon Road - heading towards Bexley - while we complete this upgrade work.
Our work area will also mean motorists will not be able to travel southbound along nearby A221 Penhill Road or access The Drive from its junction with Blendon Road.
Signed diversions are in place for affected motorists, including via the A2 and Damson Underpass. Access will be maintained for businesses and residents by following the signposted diversions.
All being well, we'll be able to reopen Penhill Road to southbound motorists on Wednesday 28 February.
All our work is agreed in close consultation with the local authority and key stakeholders.
We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years. This means that once our work is done, Bexley residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable supply of gas for many years to come.
