Blackfriars, Upper Ground

We're carrying out essential upgrades to our gas network in the Upper Ground area. This work has been planned in close consultation with the local authority and Transport for London, and will ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to nearby homes and businesses.

Working to keep you safe and warm

What we're doing

Our engineering team is replacing old metallic mains with modern plastic pipe which has a lifespan of 80 years.

When we'll be working

Our project will start on Monday 23 June and will be carried out in two phases to minimise disruption.

Where we'll be working

Our network upgrade project will be carried out in two phases to help minimise disruption.

Phase one

Our engineers will be working in Upper Ground, between its junctions with Blackfriars Road and Rennie Street, from Monday 23 June.

Upper Ground will be closed to motorists between these junctions, to ensure everyone's safety while we complete this phase of work. Signed diversions will be in place for affected motorists. A map outlining the closure area and diversion route can be seen at the foot of this page.

This work is expected to take approximately four weeks. Upon completion of this first phase, we will move straight on to phase two.

Phase two

We'll then upgrade our old pipes in Rennie Street, between its junctions with Upper Ground and Stamford Road.

Rennie Street will be closed to motorists in two phases. Firstly, at its junction with Rennie Street. Then the closure area will progress towards its junction with Stamford Road.

A signed diversion route via Blackfriars Road will be in place throughout this phase for affected motorists.

We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating for residents, businesses and road users. We'll be doing everything we can to minimise disruption while we complete this essential work to keep nearby properties safe and warm.
