We're preparing to carry out urgent gas network repairs along the A338 Wessex Way on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 February.
This essential work will ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.
This is a particularly sensitive route and we'll be carrying out this work overnight when the road is typically quieter. We'll be using the latest technology to avoid the need for digging trenches, significantly reducing the duration of the work required and enabling us to reopen the road during peak hours.
Where will the work be taking place?
Our engineers will be repairing our network along the A338 Wessex Way, near to its slip road junction to the Cooper Dean Roundabout.
We've located leaks on the gas pipe crossing both lanes on the northbound carriageway here. To safely complete our repair, we need to close both northbound lanes at this location.

When will the work be taking place?
A338 Wessex Way will be closed northbound from 8pm on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 February. The road will reopen by 5am each morning.
What will this closure mean for motorists?
- Vehicles travelling northbound (towards Ringwood) must exit via the slip road at Cooper Dean Roundabout and re-join the A338 Wessex Way.
- The traffic lights on Cooper Dean Roundabout will be switched off to avoid congestion. Road users will need to give and take.
- The southbound carriageway will remain open but will be reduced to one lane opposite the closure for safety.
- Speed limits on the A338 Wessex Way will be reduced to 40mph in both directions as traffic approaches the work location.
We understand this closure will be disruptive and our team will be working as quickly and safely as possible to complete these repairs. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
