Bournemouth, Queens Road

From Monday 15 July 2024, we'll begin work to replace our gas main along Surrey Road and Queens Road in Bournemouth.

This essential work will involve replacing old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes to ensure we can continue to provide residents and the wider community with a safe and efficient gas supply.

Due to the location of the gas pipes in the road and for everyone’s safety, we’ll need to use different traffic management.

Phase one

From Monday 15 July for approximately eight weeks

We’ll be working along Surrey Road from outside 2 Surrey Road to the junction of Queens Road. We'll be using the following traffic management:

  • From Monday 15 July to Monday 5 August, we'll need to temporarily close Queens Road (north side) at its junction with Surrey Road. This will mean no access in and out of Queens Road to Surrey Road. A signed diversion will be in place.
  • From Monday 5 August to Monday 19 August, we'll need to install temporary three-way traffic lights at the junction of Queens Road and Surrey Road.
  • Parking restrictions will be in place as we move along the road.

Phase two

From Monday 19 August for approximately nine weeks

We’ll be working along Queens Road between the junctions of Surrey Road and Poole Road.

  • Temporary multi-way traffic lights will be used for the duration of this phase.
  • Parking restrictions will be in place as we move along the road.

Phase three

From Monday 30 September for approximately 12 weeks

We’ll be working along Surrey Road from the junction of Queens Road to the junction of Prince of Wales Road.

  • We'll need to temporarily close Surrey Road from its junction with Queens Road to its junction with Prince of Wales Road.
  • Bus routes will be affected – we advise passengers to contact their service provider for the latest updates/changes to routes and timetables.

Useful information

Vehicle access to properties within the road closures – vehicle access will be maintained to properties within the closures and local access arrangements will apply. Our engineers will liaise with residents directly impacted to keep them informed.

Gas service connections – once the new gas main has been installed, properties with a gas supply will need to be connected to the new main. Affected properties will receive further information about this process.

Bus routes impacted – we advise passengers to contact their service provider for updates to timetables and routes.

We know how disruptive road closures are for the local community and we’ll be doing all we can to make sure we complete this essential work as quickly and as safely as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding and we're sorry in advance for the inconvenience our work will cause.
