We’re upgrading our gas mains in Mill Lane and Salthill Road in Chichester. These works are part of a wider scheme to replace old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes in the area. They are essential to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and efficient gas supply to residents and avoid gas leaks in the future.
Due to the location of the gas pipes in the road in both Salthill Road and Mill Lane, for everyone’s safety, it will be necessary to have road closures in place as follows:
Salthill Road, Chichester
From Monday 6 April to Friday 1 May 2026
Temporary road closure between the junctions of Newport Drive and Roman Way while we replace the gas pipe on Salthill Road.
Mill Lane, Chichester
From Friday 24 April to Friday 8 May 2026
Temporary road closure of Mill Lane from the junction of Fishbourne Road West to the junction of Mill Close.
Maps below show the locations of the closures and the signed diversion route.
These temporary closures will mean:
- No through vehicle access past the closure in either direction – signed diversion route will be in place where required
- Vehicle access for properties located within the closures will be maintained – our site team will keep those residents affected informed of access arrangements and signs will be in place for road users
- Salthill Road buses will be affected – passengers are advised to contact their service provider for the latest update/changes to service
- Bin collection days will remain unchanged unless you hear otherwise from your service provider
We understand how disruptive road closures can be for the community and we assure you our engineers will be doing everything they can to complete these works as quickly and as safely as possible.
