We’re upgrading our gas network in Kildrum area of Cumbernauld. This essential work needs to go ahead now to ensure your local community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
Working to keep you safe and warm
What we're doing
We're replacing our old metal pipes in the Lamerton Road area. This is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.
When we're working
In agreement with North Lanarkshire Council, our project will start on Monday 6 January 2025 and last approximately 12 weeks.
We’ll be working in phases to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Phase one – From Monday 6 January for approximately two weeks
During our first phase, temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at Lamerton Road’s junction with Clouden Road.
Phase two – From Monday 20 January for approximately five days
Our second phase involves the full closure of Lamerton Road to all through traffic. Local access will be maintained for all residents. A signed diversion will be in place throughout this phase via Kildrum Road, Kenmore Road and Clouden Road.
Phase three – From Friday 24 January for approximately 10 days
During phase three, Lamerton Road will remain closed however, three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place at the junctions of Kildrum Road, Mossknowe and Glencairn Road to allow local access into Mossknowe and Glencairn Road.
Phase four – From Monday 3 February
For the remainder of the project, we’ll be working throughout the area with give and take traffic management in place without the need for road closures or temporary traffic lights.
All our temporary traffic lights will be manually controlled during peak hours to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Throughout phases one to three, we’ll be disconnecting properties in Lamerton Road and Clouden Road from our old gas main to the newly laid main. During phase four, properties in Afton Road and Braehead Road will be connected to the new mains. Every property affected, will receive prior notification of a short interruption to its gas supply while this work takes place.
During all phases, our appointed contractor will be working between 7.30am and 4pm. Our teams may need to work additional hours at times, but this will be kept to a minimum.
We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, these essential gas network upgrades will ensure local residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable supply of gas for many years to come.
