Update: 24 March 2025
We have now completed our work in Church Road, Woodlands Avenue, Culver Lane and Pitts Lane. We are still reinstating our work area and temporary traffic management remains in place until this has been completed.
Our next phase of work will start on Monday 7 April for two weeks. To reduce the disruption to the local community, this work has been planned for the school Easter holidays.
We will need to close Culver Road at the junction with Eastcourt Road for one week and the junction of Anderson Road and Culver Road for the second week. Signed diversions will be in place and access will be maintained for residents and businesses.
How will this affect you?
- Please check bus times with your bus provider.
- Please allow extra time for your journey.
- Please advise any delivery companies or visitors about the road closures.
Update: 5 February 2025
We've completed the first phase of our work earlier than expected and have been able to remove the temporary multi-way traffic lights.
We're currently working in Oldfield Close and from Monday 10 February, we'll be working in Eastcourt Avenue without the need for temporary traffic measures. We'll then be working in Church Road from Monday 17 February as planned.
Original post
We're planning to upgrade the gas network pipe in Church Road, Earley. The old metal gas pipes have reached the end of their life and need to be replaced with plastic pipes to allow us to ensure that we can continue to provide a safe and reliable network.
Our contractor I&G Contractors Ltd, who will be carrying out this work on your behalf, will start work on Monday 20 January for approximately ten weeks.
Where will the work take place?
Our engineers will begin work on Church Road starting on Monday 20 January for approximately four weeks. To ensure the safety of traffic around the work site, temporary three-way traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Eastcourt Avenue and later at Palmerstone Road.
From Monday 17 February, Church Road will be closed between its junctions with Woodlands Avenue and Culver Lane for approximately six weeks. The first week of this closure has been scheduled to coincide with the spring half term holiday, minimising disruption to road users.
During the first week of the closure, temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place at the Woodlands Avenue junction with Church Road.
A signed diversion route will be in place via B3350 Pitts Lane, A4 London Road, Reading Road, Headley Road, Loddon Bridge Road, Crockhamwell Road, and Woodlands Avenue.
What does this mean for you?
- The bus stop on Culver Lane will be suspended for the duration of our works - please contact your bus provider for changes to the bus route.
- Please advise visitors and delivery companies that they may need to use the diversion.
- A webpage is available at https://www.sgn.co.uk/our-gas-works/major-planned-projects/earley-church-roadto keep you updated on our progress.
