We're carrying out essential work to upgrade the local gas supply network in the East Mains Road area of East Kilbride.
We’re investing £162,000 to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local community, by replacing existing metal gas mains and services with modern plastic pipe to ensure the East Kilbride community continues to receive a continued safe and reliable gas supply.
We’ve worked closely with South Lanarkshire Council and AMEY to plan and phase the necessary traffic management which will ensure our work can be carried out safely.
Our project started on Monday 9 January and will last until approximately 10 April. The work we’ve carried out so far will help us minimise disruption in our next phase set out below.
Monday 27 February - approximate six weeks
Starting on 27 February 2023 for approximately six weeks, we’ll need to close the B783 East Mains Road eastbound, between B761 West Mains Road and Mavor Roundabout.
A diversion will be in place via B761 West Mains Road, Whitemoss Avenue, A725 Kingsway and B783 East Mains Road. Vehicles travelling southwest from the Whirlies Roundabout on East Mains Road will be unaffected by the closure.
Markethill Road will also be closed in both directions, between the Markethill Roundabout and Law Roundabout.
We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means once the work has been completed, East Kilbride homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
