Our essential network upgrades in Margate

Our engineers will shortly start essential work to upgrade the gas network in East Street and Hook Road in Epsom.

This work will ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is delivered to nearby homes and businesses and is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.

The upgrade project will begin on Saturday 18 July and is expected to last approximately six months.

We'll be working collaboratively with Surrey Highways who will be carrying out their own infrastructure upgrades inside our closure area.

Where we'll be working

  • We'll start by reconfiguring the existing traffic lights at High Street, Upper High Street, Church Street and the A24 as upgrades begin at the junction of East Street and Hook Road.
  • Hook Road will then be closed to motorists, between Woodstock Crescent and East Street, from Thursday 23 July.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for affected road users.

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses located within the closure area. The multi-storey car park will remain open via Hook Road during our work.

We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
