We’re investing £4.3 million to upgrade the gas network in north west Glasgow.
From Monday 24 February we’ll begin critical work on the A82 Great Western Road to upgrade Glasgow’s gas network. This work is essential to ensuring a safe and reliable supply of gas continues to be delivered to Glasgow homes and businesses.
The project involves upgrading our medium pressure gas main in Great Western Road to cope with future gas demand in north west Glasgow.
Our work will be carried out in phases to minimise inconvenience as much as possible. The first phase has been planned in consultation with Glasgow City Council.
Phase 1 – Drumry Roundabout
Our first phase will begin on Monday 24 February on the eastbound carriageway of the A82 Great Western Road and will last approximately 8 weeks.
One lane eastbound will be closed for the full duration of this phase.
We’ll also be carrying out a full closure of the eastbound carriageways on Great Western Road at this location over one weekend. We’ll send out more information about this once a suitable date has been agreed with the local authorities.
We’ll update this page with more information about this phase, and subsequent phases, as soon as it becomes available.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we work to improve Glasgow’s gas infrastructure.
Looking ahead
This project is the first of multiple stages of work taking place in the north west of Glasgow. The second stage will take place in the Cleveden Road area which we'll be providing more information about shortly.
We will also be returning to all the phase locations in this project later this year to install new pressure district governors along the road. Pressure district governors reduce gas pressure to make it safe and low enough to use in homes and businesses.
All of this work will predominantly be carried out on the verge, although some traffic management may be required. We will provide more information when it becomes available.
