From Monday 26 January, we’ll begin upgrading our gas network in the Anniesland Cross area of Glasgow, Great Western Road.
These essential works have been planned in consultation with Glasgow City Council and involve replacing old, metal pipes with new longer-lasting modern plastic ones. This will ensure we can continue to provide homes and businesses in the community with a safe, reliable and efficient gas supply for decades to come.
Our work will begin on Monday 26 January and last for approximately six weeks. It will be carried out in three phases to help minimise disruption.
Phase one - 26 January to 2 February
- We'll be working in Great Western Road's junction with Fifth Avenue and Ascot Avenue.
- Great Western Road will be reduced down to one lane both ways at the junction to allow space for our work area.
- Fifth Avenue will be closed at its junction with Great Western Road.
Phase two - 2 February to 16 February
- We'll be working in Great Western Road, between Fifth Avenue and Ancaster Lane.
- Parking restrictions will be in place on the south side of Great Western Road.
- We'll be replacing the internal gas pipework (knows as internal risers) in three blocks of flats on the south end of the road. We'll send out more information directly to any residents affected.
Phase three - 16 February to 2 March
- We'll be working in Great Western Road, between Ancaster Lane and Crow Road.
- Parking restrictions will be in place on the south side of Great Western Road.
- The new internal pipework (risers) installed in phase two will be connected to the new gas main. We'll be in touch with every resident affected individually.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
