Haslemere, Hindhead Road

Update: 30 January 2023

The planned closure of Hindhead Road from Saturday 22 October to Monday 31 October was postponed and is now taking place from Saturday 11 to Sunday 19 February 2023

To help minimise disruption for local road users, we are planning to carry out these works during the school half term in February.   We will be back in touch once the exact dates are confirmed, and the necessary local authority permits are approved.

Original text:

Following the recent installation of new gas mains at the top end of Hindhead Road, we need to complete a critical connection located in the middle of the road opposite Tyndalls. We were unable
to complete this connection at time of installation work as a road closure was required.

For everyone’s safety, we’ll need to close Hindhead Road from Saturday 22 October to Monday 31 October. There will be no through access for vehicles for the duration of this work.

We have explored all other traffic management options and it has been agreed with the local authorities that a road closure is our only safe option. To minimise disruption, we will be completing this work during schools’ October half term holiday.

All businesses in the local area will remain open as usual via the diversion route. Residents directly impacted on Hindhead Road will receive further information about access arrangements.

Bus services will be impacted – please check your service with your local provider for updates on changes.

These works are part of the wider gas main replacement work taking place across Haslemere. Work began on the lower end of Hindhead Road under multiway traffic lights and will be completed before the road closure on Saturday 22 October. Please be advised traffic delays can be expected.

Caution all HGV lorries

Height and width restrictions for HGV lorries due to low bridges on all diversion routes accessing
the M&S/Tesco side of Haslemere.

HGV lorries will need to downsize – businesses and residents will need to ensure delivery companies are advised and can plan accordingly.

Drivers are advised to check routes and access into Haslemere
