Hedge End, Maypole Roundabout

Update: Friday 6 February

Following further assessment and to help ease traffic congestion on the Maypole Roundabout in Hedge End, from 6pm on Friday 6 February to Thursday 26 February, the following traffic management changes will be in place:

  • Removing the temporary multi-way traffic lights on all junctions with the Maypole Roundabout
  • Grange Road temporary closurewe will be closing the exit off the Maypole Roundabout to Grange Road - traffic from the roundabout to Grange Road will be redirected onto Lower Northern Road, Upper Northam Road to Hedge End Interchange back to Charles Watts Way and on to Grange Road.
  • Grange Road traffic heading on to the roundabout will remain unaffected
  • Lower Northam inside lane will be closed – this is to help filter traffic away from Grange Road and junctions onto the roundabout

We are confident these measures will help ease the traffic congestion and we will continue to monitor traffic flows.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this essential gas main replacement work. Our engineers will be working as quickly and as safely possible to complete these works without delay.

Original post

From Tuesday 3 February to Thursday 26 February, our engineers are completing gas main replacement across the Maypole Roundabout in Hedge End.

These essential works are part of a wider scheme to replace old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes to ensure we can continue to provide the community with a safe and efficient gas supply and avoid further disruptive gas leaks in the future.

Our engineers are currently working across the Maypole roundabout alongside the Maypole Care Home. Due to the location of the gas pipes in the road, for everyone's safety, we have temporary multi-way traffic lights on the roundabout.  These traffic lights are being manually controlled to help maintain traffic flow, particularly during peak times.

We understand the temporary traffic lights may cause disruption for road users in this location. We assure you our engineers are working as quickly and as safely as possible to complete these works.

If you need to speak to us about these works, you can contact our Customer Service Team by email Customer@sgn.co.uk or alternatively you can call them on 0800 912 1700, and they will direct your enquiry to one of the team for response.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience our work causes and thank you for your patience and understanding.
