We're carrying out essential gas main replacement work in Hove in Hova Villas, George Street, Eaton Road, Blatchington Road, Denmark Villas, Goldstone Villas and Ventnor Villas.
From Monday 5 January 2026 for a duration of approximately 26 weeks, our engineers will be completing gas main replacement work on several roads in Hove. These works are essential to ensure we can continue to maintain a safe and efficient gas supply to the community and avoid disruptive gas leaks in the future.
Due to the location of the gas pipes in the road, for everyone’s safety, we have no option than to complete this work under a series of road closures.
We understand how disruptive road closures and traffic lights are for the community and have planned these works in phases.
Phase one: Hova Villas, from Monday 5 January for approximately 20 weeks
Temporary road closure - to maintain vehicle access to Hova Villas, we’ll be replacing the gas pipes in two sections.
Section 1 – we will close half of Hova Villas from the junction of Eaton Road.
Section 2 – we will close half of Hova Villas from the junction of Church Road.
- No through vehicle access past the closure in either direction
- Residents’ vehicle access to section one will be from the south and section two from the north
- Pedestrian and cycle access will be maintained through the closure (For pedestrian safety - cyclists please dismount near work sites)
- Parking restrictions will be in place
- Bin collection days will remain unchanged unless you hear otherwise by your service provider.
Phase two: Eaton Road/Blatchington Road from Monday 19 January for approximately eight weeks
Temporary two-way traffic lights - a second team will start work on Eaton Road junction with Blatchington Road working towards the junction of George Street along the road under temporary two-way traffic lights.
Side road closures – to avoid the need for multi-way traffic lights, we will be closing the following side roads at their junctions with Eaton/Blatchington Road:
- Denmark Villas: 19 January to 20 February
- Goldstone Villas: one-way directional closure, no access onto Blatchington Road – 26 January to 27 February. These side road closures will mean no vehicle access in/out of the roads onto Eaton/Blatchington Road.
- Ventnor Villas: 26 January to 27 February. Ventnor Villas will be closed at its junction with Eaton/Blachington Road – vehicle access to Ventnor Villas will be from Church Road and Ventnor Villas will be made two-way for traffic with a turning area provided.
Phase three: George Street, from Monday 9 February for approximately 20 weeks
Temporary road closure - due to the location of the gas pipes in the road, for everyone’s safety, we will be unable to maintain vehicle access to George Street for the duration of the work.
Deliveries/drop offs – delivery/loading bays on Blatchington Road and Church Road will be available for businesses for
deliveries, please make any delivery companies/drivers aware of road closure.
Pedestrian and cycle access is fully maintained (for pedestrian safety - cyclists please dismount near work sites).
Businesses will be open as usual.
Local bus routes may be affected and we advise passengers to contact their service provider for the latest information and changes to their service.
