Following our gas mains replacement work on Hove Street, we’ll be replacing the gas main along Sackville Road from Monday 20 January 2025.
These essential works will involve replacing the old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes to ensure we can continue to provide residents and the local community a safe and efficient gas supply.
We’ll replace the gas main along Sackville Road from the junction of Portland Road to outside 115 Sackville Road. Due to the location of the existing gas main in the road and working across side road junctions, we’ll need to have varying traffic management and road closures as below.
Advance warning signs will be placed at junctions with Sackville Road before the road closures take place.
Phase one – from Monday 20 January for approximately eight weeks
We will have temporary multi-way traffic lights at the junction with Portland Road and Blatchington Road.
There will be no right turn from Sackville Road into Blatchington Road and a one-way directional closure on Clarendon Villas.
There will be no vehicle access to Sackville Road from Clarendon Villas for approximately eight weeks. This is due to the locations of our excavations and to allow for the movement of buses.
Sackville Road, side road closures – from Monday 17 March for approximately 14 weeks
To reduce the traffic impact on Sackville Road, we will need to temporarily close side roads as we progress..
The following dates are for guidance as progress will depend on several factors, including the condition of existing gas mains and access to properties to carry out service connections to the new gas main.
Residents affected can expect to receive further communications regarding these works.
- Monday 17 March to Friday 11 April – Cowper Street and Goldstone Road
- Monday 31 March to Friday 2 May – Wordsworth Street and Shirely Street
- Monday 14 April to Friday 23 May – Montgomery Street and Livingstone Road
- Monday 28 April to Friday 16 May – Byron Street
- Monday 5 May to Friday 30 May – Clarendon Road
- Monday 19 May to Friday 6 June – Coleridge Road
Each road will be closed at its junction with Sackville Road. This will mean no vehicle access in or out of the road onto Sackville Road. Signed diversion routes will be in place.
Temporary three-way traffic lights – from Monday 2 June for approximately seven weeks
We will be replacing a section of gas main on Clarendon Road and in Conway Street. We will need to have temporary three-way traffic lights at the junction of Clarendon Road and Conway Street.
We appreciate this work will be disruptive for residents and road users. We will be doing everything we can to complete this essential work as quickly and as safely as possible.
