Project update - 18 March

Our essential works to upgrade the gas network at Raigmore Interchange is progressing well.

We've been working in Millburn Road and making our way towards the A96, where work can now recommence.

This means the westbound lane closure of the A96 between the Inverness Retail Park Roundabout and the B865 Milburn Road, will be reinstated on Monday 23 March. The closure will remain in place for the remainder of our project which is expected to be complete no later than the end of May.

The westbound lane closure on Millburn Road will also remain in place as planned.

To ensure continued traffic flow, a recovery vehicle will be on site at all times should there be a breakdown within our working area.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused as we carry out these essential works. We will continue to provide updates as the work progresses here.

Our critical work in the A96/A9 Raigmore interchange involves the replacement of a high-pressure pipeline to ensure thousands of homes across Inverness continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

Our work will begin on Tuesday 10 February and take approximately 15 weeks to complete.

Our specialist team of engineers had originally scheduled a project to reinforce our pipes at this location in March 2026, however investigative works over the weekend discovered a section of our gas network that is in urgent need of replacement before the planned programme can begin.

This work is safety critical and if it’s not carried out now, there is a risk of losing gas supplies to Inverness.

Due to the nature of these activities, advance notice was not possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to commuters and the local community.

To allow our works to be carried out, a westbound lane closure will be in place between the Inverness Retail Park Roundabout and the B865 Milburn Road, shown on the map above.

We’re aware that BEAR Scotland are currently carrying out planned works at the interchange. We are working in close partnership with BEAR to minimise any additional disruption and delays to their project. By collaborating, we’ll deliver both sets of work safely and efficiently.

We recognise that this is a very busy route and want to assure you we’ll be doing everything we can to reduce the impact of our emergency works, including night-time and weekend working where possible.

To ensure continued traffic flow, a recovery vehicle will be on site at all times should there be a breakdown within our working area.

When our emergency work is completed, our teams will continue with the previously scheduled project to reinforce our gas network further along the road. We'll provide more in-depth details on this section of our project closer to the start time.

We’d like to thank the community and motorists for your patience and support while we carry out our critical work to keep gas flowing safely.
