Project update: 16 November

Our engineers have now completed our gas network upgrade on the Lanark Road West, six weeks ahead of schedule.

Specialist teams are now reinstating the final section of the road surface where we’ve been working, and we expect this to be set by Saturday (18 November).

All being well, this means the temporary traffic lights on Lanark Road West will be removed on Saturday morning and the road will be fully re-opened to motorists.

Following completion of our work on Lanark Road West, we'll be working in Blinkbonny Road to complete our gas network upgrade project in the area. A road closure will be in place and motorists will be required to follow a local diversion route. We expect this work to take around one week to complete.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued patience and understanding whilst we carry out our essential upgrade work.

We’re investing £740,000 to upgrade our gas network in the Lanark Road West area, to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

We’re carrying out this essential upgrade work now as a permanent solution to the recent emergency work we’ve carried out in this section of the road, to prevent future disruption to motorists and the local community.

In agreement with the City of Edinburgh Council, our project will start on 1 July 2023, and will and last approximately 6 months.

Lanark Road West project

We're carrying out our work in two phases to reduce disruption to the local community as much as possible.

Phase one of our project in Lanark Road West will begin at its junction with Stewart Road and continue to its junction with Station Loan. Stewart Road will be closed at its junction with Lanark Road West.

During the first section of phase two, we’ll be working from the junction of Juniperlee, to outside the Sainsbury’s petrol station. Muirwood Road and Juniper Avenue will be closed at the junctions with Lanark Road West.

We'll then be working between Curriehill Road and Dolphin Avenue.

In the second section of phase two, our work continue in the opposite direction, from Sainsbury's petrol station towards Juniperlee.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of our work to ensure continued traffic flow.
