Leatherhead, Headley Road

We're preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the Headley Road area of Leatherhead.

This work will ensure properties across Leatherhead continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.

Our project follows close consultation with Surrey County Council. It will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to road users, residents and businesses.

Our phases of work

Headley Road - Phase one

  • Starting Monday 1 September
  • Lasting approximately three weeks

Our engineers will be upgrading our network along Headley Road between Reigate Road and the A24 Leatherhead Bypass.

To ensure everyone's safety, Headley Road will be closed to motorists around our site. The closure point will move as our engineers progress.

A24 Leatherhead Bypass

  • Starting Monday 22 September
  • Lasting approximately four weeks

We'll be replacing our pipes along A24 Leatherhead Bypass between Headley Road and Tanners Dean. Temporary traffic lights will be installed here for safety and to manage traffic flow.

Headley Road will be closed at both its junctions with the A24 Leatherhead Bypass during this phase.

Headley Road - Phase two

  • Starting in mid-October
  • Scheduled finish of Friday 31 October

Once our engineers have completed our upgrades on the bypass, we will continue replacing our old pipes along Headley Road, towards its junction with The Drive.

A section of Headley Road, between A24 Leatherhead Bypass and The Drive, will be shut for safety during this phase.

What do the closures mean for me?

  • Affected motorists should follow the signed diversions in place while roads are closed. Vehicle access for residents within the closure points will change as works progress. Our engineers and local signage will keep road users and residents informed.
  • Bus routes will be impacted. We advise residents to contact their service provider for the latest updates on changes to services/routes, timetables and bus stop locations.
  • We’ll work with the local council to ensure refuse collections can continue to be made with as little disruption as possible.
  • Emergency services will be informed about the road closure and will have contingency plans in place while roads are closed.

We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
