Leaves Green, Westerham Road

We're carrying out essential network upgrades in the Westerham Road area to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas continues to be delivered to nearby homes and businesses.

Working to keep you safe and warm

What we're doing

We're replacing our old metal pipes in phases in the Westerham Road area. This is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.

When we're working

Our work starts on Monday 3 June and is expected to last approximately 28 weeks. This work will be split into four phases to minimise disruption from this essential project.

Phase one

From Monday 3 June, our engineers will be upgrading our network in Church Road, Westerham Road, Leaves Green Road and Downe Road.

To ensure everyone's safety around our site, Church Road will be closed to motorists at its junction with Westerham Road. A signed diversion will be in place for affected road users and access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

Temporary traffic lights will also be installed at the junction of Westerham Road, Downe Road and Leaves Green Road. These lights will be manually operated during peak times to manage traffic flow at this sensitive location.

This work is expected to be completed by Sunday 21 July.

Phase two

Our second phase of work will take place in Rookery Road and New Road Hill from Monday 22 July. This phase is expected to last approximately six weeks.

We will begin at New Road Hill's junction with Shire Lane and progress towards Rookery Road. We will need to close New Road Hill in sections around our site as we progress along the road.

Traffic will be diverted via Downe Road, Leaves Green Road, Main Road, Jail Lane, Single Street, Luxted Road and Downe High Street.

A second team of engineers will also be working in nearby Baston Road to replace the gas main at the junction of West Common Road.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation around this junction for approximately four weeks.

We will need to close Fox Lane and Commonside at their junctions with Heathfield Road to ensure the safety of everyone around the work site. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses and a signed diversion will be in place.

Phase three

Our engineers will then be upgrading our network in Shire Lane and New Road Hill at their junctions with Downe Road. This work is expected to last for approximately eight weeks.

It will be necessary to put temporary traffic lights at Downe Road for the duration of the work. These traffic lights will be operated manually at peak times.

We have a fourth phase of work to carry out at the roundabout junction of Leaves Green Road and Downe Road.

The start date of this phase is dependent on the progress of the previous phases. We anticipate this may be carried our from the beginning of November, although we will advise you nearer the time.

We'll need to install temporary traffic lights here, which will be manually controlled at peak times.

All our work is agreed in close consultation with the local authority and key stakeholders.

We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years. This means that once our work is done, residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable supply of gas for many years to come.
