From Saturday 27 September, we’re working at the Mitcham gas holder site, located opposite Asda on Western Road. This is to prepare the gas infrastructure to facilitate the building of new affordable homes in the area. Barring any engineering difficulties, work will be ongoing for approximately seven weeks.
To ensure that we carry out this work safely, the following will be in place throughout the project:
- A temporary closure on Western Road, from the junction of Bond Road (which will remain open to Asda and residents) to just before Sadler Close.
- Temporary two-way traffic lights at the Western Road junction of Bond Road. A signed diversion will be in place via Church Road, Lower Green West, and London Road.
- Access to Asda will be unaffected, but motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time.
To complete the project as quickly as possible, the project team will be working extended hours during the week and on the weekends.
Some bus stops will be temporarily suspended, and the 152 bus will be diverted from Western Road onto Bond Road and London Road before commencing its normal route and back via the diversion.
What does this mean for you?
- If you live within the area that is being temporarily closed, access will be maintained.
- If you have any special requirements or need to arrange access for people with disabilities, please speak to one of our engineering teams.
- Please advise delivery drivers and visitors about the road closures.
- Please allow extra time for your journey.
- Parking will be temporarily suspended around our work site.
