We are investing £1.7m to upgrade the gas network in Newmains to ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.
Working to keep you safe and warm
What we're doing
The project involves replacing old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe which has a lifespan of around 80 years. This will help ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
When we're working
Following close consultation with North Lanarkshire Council, our work started on Monday 11 May and last approximately 19 weeks.
Where we'll be working
Our project will be carried out in six phases to limit disruption as much as possible.
Phase 1
From Monday 11 May until Friday 12 June, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place in Morningside Road, between its junction with Mill Road and just south of its junction with Chapel Road.
Phase 2
From Monday 18 May until Friday 5 June, three-way temporary traffic lights will be in the A71 Overtown Road. The lights will affect a 300-metre stretch south from Cooper’s Roundabout.
Phase 3
From Monday 1 June until Friday 12 June, temporary three-way traffic lights will be in the A73 Main Street. These rolling lights will move from Cooper’s Roundabout up to Asda Newmains Superstore.
Phase 4
From Monday 29 June until Wednesday 16 September, temporary four-way traffic lights will be in place at Newmains Roundabout affecting all streets accessing the roundabout including A73 Main Street, Morningside Road, and Manse Road.
During this phase a road closure will be in place on Bonkle Road and no access directly onto the roundabout will be available. All vehicular traffic will follow a signed diversion route. Local residents within Bonkle Road will have access available to their streets.
Phase 5
From Monday 29 June until Friday 18 September, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place in Bonkle Road between Douglas Crecent and Alcath Road.
Phase 6
From Monday 20 July until Friday 20 August, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place in Westwood Road between Newmains Roundabout and Murdouston View.
We would like to thank everyone in the community for your understanding and support as we work to improve the energy infrastructure in Newmains.
