Our essential network upgrades in Portslade
We've started essential work to upgrade the gas network in the A270 Old Shoreham Road area of Portslade.
This work will ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is delivered to nearby homes and businesses and is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.
Frequent repairs have been carried out on this section of our network, and these upgrades will help prevent future disruptive repair work at short notice.
The project began on Monday 29 June and is expected to last until the end of July. Details of the roads affected by this work can be found below.
Where we're working
Foredown Drive
- From Mon 29 Jun
- Lasting approx. four weeks
- We'll be working between its junctions with A270 Old Shoreham Road and Highland Close
- For everyone's safety, directional closures will be in place around our work area
A270 Old Shoreham Road/B2194 Carlton Terrace (Boundary Road)
- Our work will start at this junction on Sat 27 Jul. This initial step will involve some complex connections, and we'll need to implement some lane closures around our site.
- However, from Mon 3 Aug until Tue 1 Sep, we'll need to close these roads for safety. Details are as follows:
- There will be no access into B2194 Carlton Terrace (Boundary Road) from A270 Old Shoreham Road or A2038 Hangleton Road.
- A270 Old Shoreham Road will be closed westbound at its junction with A2038 Hangleton Road. Westbound motorists will be able to turn right into A2038 Hangleton Road. A signed diversion via A2023, A259 and A293 will be in place.
- Motorists can still travel eastbound along A270 Old Shoreham Road, but will be unable to enter B2194 Carlton Terrace (Boundary Road) by turning right.
- Northbound traffic can exit B2194 Carlton Terrace (Boundary Road) and turn left only. To travel eastbound, vehicles should turn right on the A293 and go round the Sainsbury's roundabout before rejoining the A270 Old Shoreham Road.
- Motorists will only be able to turn left from A2038 Hangleton Road on to A270 Old Shoreham Road. Affected road users should follow Hangleton Way, Hangleton Lane and the A293 before rejoining A270 Old Shoreham Road.
We recommend allowing additional time for your journeys while the closures are in place. Please also be reminded to follow the diversion routes and avoid using smaller roads which should be considered as access only.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
