We are currently upgrading the gas network in Portsmouth by replacing the gas main in Festing Road and Highland Road. This essential work will provide a permanent solution to the disruption caused by recent gas leaks in the area.
Our engineers are replacing the old metal gas pipe, from outside Pizza Hut on Festing Road to outside Mumms Café on Highland Road, with new modern plastic pipe. The project will take approximately six weeks to complete.
Due to the location of the gas main in the road and for everyone’s safety, we have the following traffic management in place.
- Southbound lane closure on Festing Road between the junction of Highland Road and outside Pizza Hut. This closure will mean there is no access to Festing Road from Highland Road, alternative route via Exeter Road.
- Three-way lights are in place on the junction of Highland Road with Festing Road. This is to allow us to complete connection work to the gas main located on Highland Road.
- Bus route southbound on Festing Road will be impacted, so we advise passengers to contact their service provider for latest update reference changes to bus route.
- Parking bay suspensions are in place on Festing Road.
Businesses on Festing Road remain open as usual during this project. And on street parking is available on Festing Road the other side of the lane closure.
We apologise there have been delays in completing these works. Our team needs specialist fittings to arrive before they can start replacement work. Throughout this time the open excavations have been required to allow us to safely monitor gas readings.
We apologies for any disruption and would like to thank the Portsmouth community for your ongoing patience and understanding. We're doing all we can to complete these works as quickly and as safely as possible.
