On Monday 3 November, SGN contractors WCB will be starting work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Selcroft Road area of Purley.
These essential works will involve replacing an old, metal pipe with a new longer-lasting plastic one so that we can continue to provide businesses and the wider community with a safe and efficient gas supply. Barring any engineering difficulties, the work will be completed during February.
The work will be carried out in sections, and the following road closures will be in place:
- Monday 3 November (two and a half weeks) - Cliff End
- Monday 14 November (five weeks) - Selcroft Road
- Monday 28 November (three and a half weeks) - Purley Hill
- Friday 2 January 2026 (six weeks) – Oakwood Avenue
- Monday 26 January (four and a half weeks) – Riddlesdown Road, from outside property no. 86 to the junction of Mitchley Avenue
Diversions will be in place and clearly signposted.
We are committed to minimising disruption as much as possible and will ensure:
- Pedestrian access and property access are maintained
- Local businesses and residents can continue to receive deliveries – please speak to our site team regarding any specific access arrangements
- Emergency access is preserved
If you have any specific questions regarding these works, please email customer@sgn.co.uk.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience this work will cause, and thank local people for their patience and understanding.
