Raeburn Place FAQs

Help topics

1. What work are you carrying out in the Raeburn Place area of Stockbridge?

We’re working to replace old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe. We’ll also be carrying out works on all of the gas service pipes attached to the mains – we’ll get in touch with each customer individually to discuss this work in details. This will ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to not only homes and businesses in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh.

2. Why are you carrying out this work in Stockbridge now?

We’ve planned this project in close consultation with the City of Edinburgh Council and other local authorities.

While we understand there’s no ideal time to carry out our work, we need to replace this old gas main. We’re upgrading our network in the area, so we can keep Stockbridge homes and businesses safe and warm long into the future.

3. When will engineers be working in Stockbridge?

We’re starting our Raeburn Place area project on Monday 6 January and it’ll take approximately 30 weeks to complete.

Our engineers will be working Monday to Friday from 7am-5pm, and extended hours on weekdays, plus weekends as required.

We are mindful of the impact of our work on residents, so we’ll give the local community a break from our work through the night and at weekends when possible.

4. Will businesses along Raeburn Place remain open and how can I access them?

All Raeburn Place businesses will remain open as usual.

To keep everyone safe, we need to close Raeburn Place to westbound traffic during phase two of our project, but you’ll still be able to access all shops, homes and businesses along the road by foot.

5. I cycle to and from work along Deanhaugh Street and Raeburn Place. Do I need to follow the diversion route for motorists as well?

Cyclists should follow our signed diversion routes as well as motorists.

6. How do I find out if my bus service is affected because of the gas upgrade work in the Stockbridge area?

We’re sorry for the inconvenience our road closure causes commuters on bus services serving Deanhaugh Street and Raeburn Place. Some bus stops will be suspended and relocated away from our work area for everyone’s safety and routes will be redirected around our closure.

We would encourage all commuters to please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey. You can find advice and the latest travel information on the Lothian Bus website: https://www.lothianbuses.com/live-travel-info/roadworks-and-diversions/

7. I own a business along Raeburn Place. How is my business likely to be affected by the work?

We appreciate that our essential work may impact businesses and we’re doing all we can to support local traders during our upgrade project. We’ll have a dedicated marshal on site throughout our project to help with any issues.

We’ve setup a dedicated information page for Raeburn Place traders to explain more about our work, details on deliveries and how we can provide extra support. Please visit [LINK].

8. Will my gas supply be affected at any point during your work in Stockbridge?

As we are renewing the pipes along Deanhaugh Street and Raeburn Place, your gas supply may be temporarily interrupted while we carry out a section nearby to your property. We will try to keep any interruptions to a minimum, and we’ll let you know in advance if your gas supply is likely to be affected by our upgrade work.

9. How will your work in Stockbridge affect my waste collections?

We’ve liaised with the City of Edinburgh Council waste management department which serves the Raeburn Place area and agreed waste will continue to be collected as normal during our work.

Waste collections will follow existing guidelines and collection times should remain unchanged.

Our on-site marshal will be on hand to assist waste collection vehicles reverse and turn while they are collecting waste from the designated locations.

We’ll screen off our work area and we’ll endeavour to keep that, and the surrounding area, as tidy as possible while we carry out our upgrades.

10. How do I contact the Raeburn Place project team with a separate query?
