Southbourne, Clifton Road

From Tuesday 28 May to Monday 8 July, we'll be replacing the gas governor and housing kiosk located opposite Clifton Road and near to Southbourne Overcliff Drive, next to Gordons zig-zag footpath down to the beach.

The gas governor and its housing kiosk need to be replaced due to its age and to make sure local gas pressures can be maintained, allowing us to provide a safe and efficient gas supply to the local community.

We have planned this work with the local highways team so that the governor is replaced before the winter months when pressures and demand for gas will increase, and to avoid the school holidays and summer season.

Local gas supplies will not be interrupted because of these works.

How will these works impact the local community?

Temporary two-way traffic lights on Clifton Road

To allow our engineers to complete this work safely, we'll need to have temporary two-way traffic lights in place around our work area. This is because we need to access governor connection points which are located in the road on Southbourne Overcliff Drive.

Temporary closure of Clifton Road at its junction with Southbourne Overcliff Drive

We'll need to temporarily close Clifton Road at its junction with Southbourne Overcliff Drive to avoid using temporary traffic lights. This will mean no access in and out of Clifton Road to/from Southbourne Overcliff Drive. Access will be via a signed diversion route.

Entrance to footpath temporarily closed

For safety and due to the governor being located next to the footpath entrance, access to the Gordons zig-zag footpath will be via a short signed diversion.

What is a gas governor?

The gas governor kiosk is a crucial part of the gas main infrastructure. It regulates the gas pressures being delivered into the gas pipe network. Gas engineers use the governor to increase or decrease local pressures as required to ensure gas is delivered safely and efficiently to homes and businesses.

We're sorry for any inconvenience we may cause and thank the local community for your patience and understanding.
