We're preparing to carry out essential network upgrades in the A259 Bexhill Road area to ensure nearby homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.
Our engineers will be replacing our old metal mains with new plastic pipe from Monday 5 January. This work is expected to last approximately ten weeks.
To ensure everyone's safety around our site, we need to install temporary traffic lights along A259 Bexhill Road, between its junctions with Freshfields and Haven Road.
We'll be manually operating these lights between 7am and 7pm, Mondays to Saturdays, to help manage traffic flow and minimise disruption.
We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of approximately 80 years. This means once our work is done, St Leonards-on-sea residents and businesses will be able to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
Update - Thursday 12 February
Our gas network upgrade project is progressing well and we've started the final phase of our work this morning.
We're now connecting the new pipe at the junction of Bulverhythe Road.
So far, we've been able to safely complete most of our work without needing to install temporary traffic lights around our site. However, to keep everyone safe during this final stage, we will need to install four‑way temporary traffic lights around our work area. This will include a signal at the Aldi car park exit to safely manage vehicles leaving the site.
To help minimise disruption, an operative will be on site daily from 7am to 7pm to manually control the lights and adjust timings in line with traffic flow. However, we recommend allowing extra time for journeys while this phase is underway.
We’d like to apologise for any disruption caused so far and thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carry out these essential upgrades
We expect this final section of work to take two to three weeks, after which the entire upgrade will be completed - two weeks ahead of schedule.
