Swanley, A20 Trunk Road

Update - Monday 1 August

This project has been suspended after consultation with Highways England. We'll work to plan this project to take place at a later date.

We need to carry out essential network upgrades along the A20 Trunk Road at Swanley to ensure local properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

In close consultation with National Highways, we'll be working along the A20 Trunk Road, near to Bournewood Sand & Gravel, from Friday 29 July for approximately 15 days.

To ensure everyone's safety while we carry out this upgrade, we will need to introduce lane closures and temporary maximum speed limits around our site.

  • The westbound carriageway will be closed from 9pm on Friday 29 July to 5am on Saturday 30 July.
  • From 5am on Saturday 30 July, we'll be able to reopen the outside lane to motorists.
  • A 50mph speed limit will be in operation around our work area.
  • Before Monday 1 August, we'll be able to reopen the middle lane to motorists.
  • The inside lane will be closed for the duration of our work.
  • On the final night of our work, we will need to close the entirety of the westbound carriageway again. Please check this page for updates on when this will take place.

A signed diversion route will be in place for affected motorists during the overnight road closures.

The eastbound carriageway is unaffected by our work.

We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when our work is complete, local residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
