Our work to upgrade the gas pipes on London Road, Swanley, has been extended until 28 September 2025 to allow us to replace the gas main between Manse Way and the Trading Estate.
These works are essential and will remove the ongoing risk of gas leaks on the network, which, if left unaddressed, would likely lead to repeated and prolonged disruptions in the area.
These works will involve replacing an old, metal pipe with a new longer longer-lasting plastic one so that we can continue to provide businesses and the wider community with a safe and efficient gas supply.
Why is the extension required?
Recent weather changes have led to an increased demand on the gas network, which has affected how the works are carried out. The gas main lies approximately 2.5 metres underground, which requires additional engineering measures.
The initial extension granted by the local authority did not allow sufficient time to complete all necessary works under these revised conditions, and a further extension has been approved.
Traffic management
We understand that the closure and diversion at the junction with Beechenlea Lane is frustrating for residents. However, this closure remains essential for the safety of the local community and our engineering teams.
We’d like to reassure the local community and road users that we are committed to working as quickly and safely as possible to deliver these essential gas network upgrades.
If you have any specific questions regarding these works, please email customer@sgn.co.uk.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience this work will cause, and thank local people for their patience and understanding.
