Three-Legged Cross, Verwood Road

From Monday 5 August for approximately 16 weeks, we'll be working in Verwood Road to complete the rest of our gas main replacement project. This work is essential to avoid further leaks and disruptive emergency ‘unplanned’ replacement.

Work will be carried out in two phases:

Phase one

We'll be working from the junction of Dearhurst House to Crab Orchard Way.

To avoid closing the road to traffic, we’ll be installing temporary two-way traffic lights around our work area as we progress along the road.

Phase two

When we've completed phase one, we’ll need to return to the junction of Furzelands Road to complete the final installation and connection heading northbound to the mini roundabout. Temporary two-way traffic lights will be required.

This work has been urgently planned to incorporate working through the school holidays and ensure we are complete before winter when the gas pressure in the network increases. This replacement work must be completed this year before winter.

We have provided some answers to frequently asked questions below. If you need to contact us about these works, please call us on 0800 912 1700 or email customer@sgn.co.uk and we’ll pass your enquiry to a member of the project team.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this work may cause. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Frequently asked questions

This is a very challenging replacement project. We're replacing a medium pressure gas pipe that provides a critical feed to the wider community. Engineers will be keeping the gas flowing while the replacement work is carried out.

We are replacing a total of 956 metres of gas pipe and also carrying out service connections to properties as we progress. The progress of our project will be dependent on access to properties where required.

These are planned replacement works: contractors have been allocated, materials ordered, and all health and safety requirements will have been completed ahead of starting on site.

This has all been planned in advance, unlike unplanned emergency replacement carried out earlier this year.

Engineers will be working in sections of 100 metres per week (if engineering work goes to plan) and weekends are booked for reinstatement and resurfacing. There will be limited visibility of engineers when reinstatement activity is being carried out. The road resurfacing will take time to allow the new surface to set/cure before it is safe to drive on.

Properties located on Verwood Road that have a gas supply will need their gas service pipe connected to the new main installed.

Properties impacted will receive further communications about this and our site team will liaise directly with you to make local arrangements.

No supplies will be isolated without prior engagement.
