Tonbridge, Hadlow Road

We know that during the coronavirus outbreak, our communities will rely on us now more than ever to keep them safe and warm. The safety of our communities and our employees will remain our number one priority in the weeks and months ahead.

We need to carry out emergency gas network upgrades in your area. This needs to go ahead now, rather than wait until the pandemic passes, to ensure your local community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

In close consultation with Kent County Council, our emergency work will start on Thursday 3 December. We’ve agreed with the local authority to replace this section of main on the A26 Hadlow Road, rather than just repairing our existing pipe to avoid returning to the area and causing future disruption. We expect our project to last approximately four weeks.

Our engineers will be working on the A26 Hadlow Road from the junction with Bourne Lane and progressing north towards Yardley Park Road. For everyone’s safety, we will install temporary multi-way lights around our work area and manually control these lights to assist with traffic flow.

Bus stops adjacent to our work will be suspended throughout, and the pedestrian crossing by Yardley Park Road will be out of use.

Our engineers will be working extended hours, up until 10pm on weekdays and also at weekends, to complete this work as quickly as possible.

All work will be suspended between 21 December and 4 January 2021, to avoid disrupting the area during the busy festive period. Our engineers will reinstate our work area and safely remove our equipment before leaving the site.

We’re working closely with UK Government and public health bodies to make sure we work safely and in line with expert advice during the coronavirus outbreak. We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our customers from catching or spreading the virus as we carry out our safety-critical project.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when our work in Morden is complete, residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

Project update - Tuesday 22 December

We've now completed our work in Hadlow Road enabling us to safely remove our temporary lights and clear our site.

Our engineers do not need to return in the new year as we've managed to replace the section of pipe in our gas network ahead of schedule.

We'd like to thank local residents and road users for their patience while we carried this urgent upgrade work.
