Walton-on-Thames, Terrace Road

We're preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the Terrace Road area of Walton-on-Thames.

This work will ensure local properties continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.

It will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to road users, residents and businesses.

Our phases of work

Phase one

  • Starting Monday 7 April
  • Lasting approximately two weeks

Our engineers will be upgrading our gas network in Terrace Road, from property number 101 to its junction with Thamesmead. To ensure everyone’s safety around the worksite, temporary two-way traffic lights will be installed.

We’ll also be working in Russell Road at its junction with Terrace Road. We need to shut Russell Road to motorists during this first phase of work.

The lights and the closure will be in place for approximately two weeks.

Phase two

  • Starting Monday 21 April
  • Lasting approximately three weeks

From Monday 21 April, our engineers will be working along Egmont Road towards its junction with Cottimore Lane. Egmont Road will be closed around our site for safety for approximately two weeks.

We will then move to Sidney Road on Friday 05 May. We’ll be working between property number 29A and its junction with Terrace Road. Sidney Road will be shut to motorists around our work area for approximately one week.

Phase three

  • Starting Friday 12 May
  • Lasting approximately seven weeks

Our final phase of work will start on Friday 12 May with our engineers working simultaneously in Churchfield Road, Alpine Road and Montague Close. All three roads will need to be closed around our work area to maintain everyone’s safety.

The upgrades in Churchfield Road, being carried out between property number 51 and its junction with Sidney Road, will last approximately five weeks. While our work in Alpine Road, between Sidney Road and Montague Close, is expected to last around seven weeks.

What do the closures mean for me?

  • If your property is located within one of the road closure areas, access will be maintained. Please speak to our engineers about any special requirements you may have.
  • Please ensure that delivery drivers and visitors know about the road closure.
  • Please allow additional time for your journeys.
  • Please check with your local bus company to be aware of any updates to services, routes or bus stop locations.

We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, Walton-on-Thames residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
