On Thursday 6 November, we began urgent work to replace the old metal gas pipe on Littleworth Bridge in Wheatley.
This work needs to be completed now to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local community.
The existing mains are situated across the bridge structure, which requires complex excavation, liaison with other utilities and traffic management to safely complete the pipe replacement. For everyone's safety, we've temporarily closed the road at the bridge.
We will ensure that during this work, local gas supplies will not be affected.
Although it is too early to confirm how long our work will take, we currently estimate we will take approximately four to six weeks to complete, depending on unforeseen technical or weather conditions.
Signage
The signage in place is being reviewed following feedback that additional and alternative signs are required to clearly explain that the road is closed and to reduce the speed limit to 50mph. These will be in place urgently.
Access
24-hour access will be maintained for businesses, residents, and emergency services.
Public transport
The 3-6 bus route will be temporarily diverted. Anyone using this service is advised to check with the bus provider for details about changes to timetables and bus stops.
We understand that traffic management causes inconvenience for the local community and we will make sure our engineers work as safely and quickly as possible to complete the gas infrastructure replacement.
