Road closure for essential gas main connection
Update: Monday 19 August
Due to high voltage electricity mains positioned directly over our gas main, we are unable to safely complete the reinforcement work required. Our engineers have explored all possible options to try and complete the required work while the road closure was in place but unfortunately, the accessibility to our gas main to carry out the reinforcement work isn’t possible.
We will need to return to the area at a late date to complete this reinforcement work as it is essential in ensuring we can maintain the future increased demand for gas in the area. Our specialist teams will be investigating alternative engineering options and locations to carry out the reinforcement and we’ll keep you updated as soon as plans are confirmed.
Road reopening
We're in the process of removing our operations from the site - the excavations are being filled and the road will be resurfaced. All going to plan, the road will be reopened by Wednesday (21 August) evening.
Please note: the road will not be reopened until the surface is set and it's safe for vehicles to drive on - curing time depends on weather conditions; if the weather is hot the surface will take longer to set. There will be limited visibility of engineers on site while the curing is taking place.
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Update: Wednesday 14 August
Due to unforeseen engineering challenges, we need to extend the duration of our project.
We now expect to complete our work on Friday 23 August.
We appreciate how disruptive this temporary closure is for the community - we’re doing all we can to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible.
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
Original post
From Monday 5 August for two weeks, our contractors I&G Utilities Limited will be carrying out critical gas reinforcement work on Clandon Road, Woking. This work is essential to ensure we maintain a safe and efficient gas supply to the local area.
For everyone’s safety, this work will require a full road closure. We are connecting the gas main that runs directly across the road - please see map below with exact location of the closure.
This closure will mean no through vehicle access along Clandon Road past the point of the closure in either direction. Vehicle access to Clandon Road will be via the relevant signed diversion route.
Bus service will be affected – please contact your service provider for the latest changes to bus stop locations, routes and timetables.
We’ve planned these works during the school holidays to help minimise the impact on local traffic.
We understand this road closure will be disruptive for road users and the community, and we’ll be doing all we can to ensure we complete this necessary work as quickly and as safely as possible. We’re sorry in advance for any inconvenience caused.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
